One piece Glass conversion

Has anybody seen or used a one piece door glass conversion on a 66 or 67 cutlass yet? I would like to see how they finished off the space where the vent was at front of the door.

From what I understand GM figured out that the ventipane wing windows created a lot of cabin noise and phased ‘em out due to that (plus it probably reduced manufacturing costs…)

I’ve thought about this from time to time for my big cars, but concluded it would look really weird without the vent windows. If you do the swap, please let us know how it goes.

Cheers

One of the reason people like the 67 and older is because they have vent windows. There are advantages to having them.

They were phased out due to the advent of air conditioning. A vent in your dash can be used for both fresh air and AC with some plumbing changes under the dash, and an AC car can always blow fresh air with the blower to a lesser extent. I wish all my cars had vent windows, it's almost impossible to not be comfortable blasting down the road with the vent window reversed and the crotch blower open. But, with AC, people went from 3 seasons with windows open to maybe half a season, so vents were not needed. A vent window is far superior to a dash vent, even a non AC dash vent.

I do look at that spear of the vent window frame on my 67 with the window down and the door open sometimes and go "hmmmm".

I'm not aware of anyone selling such a conversion. You can get a similar kit for the pickups, but not for the A-body cars. Apparently there's no demand for this product.

Interesting. I was unaware of those. I don't see the 66-67 hardtops, only the post cars. $1500 for the 64-65 hardtop kits. A mere $775 for the post cars. Instructions "coming soon".

You have to click the tab at the top left for conversions and then it shows for hardtop and convertible. I reached out yesterday to get more information. I was so excited to find true glass. I was going to make my own set up out of lexon but would have been a ton more work to get the same look.

Flipping your cigarette butts out them was pretty standard 50 years ago. But they did provide great ventilation on hot summer days, that is until you stopped. Hard to believe some of the things we used to do. Dump motor oil down the sewer, toss the beer bottles out the window at off ramps, Of course they used to fog the neighborhoods to kill mosquitos.

They still fog and it still works OK. Not as good as it used to be.
