The W-30 got these items from the W-29 package:
- grills & 442 badging
- FE2 suspension
- delete body side moldings and rocker trim.
The W-29 retained:
- metal hood with blacked out louvers and Oldsmobile script on the front right,
- 350 engines (2bbl & 4bbl) majority of production,
- 3 thin body stripes, special hood outline stripes,
- single exhaust (majority of production)
- grills & 442 badging
- FE2 suspension
- delete body side moldings and rocker trim.

Allan, congrats. You have now exceeded my ability to care about this thread. Enjoy.

I guess I would have been more correct in saying the W-30 package got everything in the W-29 package except the things overridden by the W-30 package (i.e. hood, striping, etc.). Obviously you can't get both hoods, both stripes, etc.

When you invite discussion to calling ANY W-30 a W-25 car, you deserve what you get. You have been so focused on nit picking little details that I offered up that comment as a return gesture. Obviously the 1975 W-25 pictured has nothing to do with 1972 cars, it's just a reflection of how I reacted to your all encompassing statement - call it something I've learned from you.
Of course not, the W25 RPO was offered for ALL 1972 W-29's with a 350 4bbl. Don't be so naive. As I mentioned to Mike and I'll say it again for you since you don't seem to read well,
See? Just you being nit picking again. Apparently it's easy to exceed your expectations, and since you haven't categorically proven anything to me, yes I will 'enjoy'.
Understood. The 71 442 production is so much easier to validate with VIN and model specific references. For 68-71 I agree with you - every 442 would basically have common features that make it a 442, and there would be the W30 upgrade, with engine and minor trim package appropriate to the year. I wish the 442 had continued as a model instead of the option it became.

There are many variations that could be called into play for discussion but I'm only dealing with the basics here

Kurt, I don't want to misinterpret your post or twist any meanings. If I understand your comments, the W29 option is simply one choice of ordering the 72 442, and may include other factory available options for creature comfort and appearance (eg: OAI hood on 350 equipped cars, rallye pac, AC etc). The W30 is a second and separate choice to order a 72 442 option, and any other options required or desired would apply. Am I reading this correctly?
The W29 was the 442 option. Period. Ordering the W30 means a 442 too, but only because it includes option W29.
