Oldsmobiles for sale at the Spring 2011 Charlotte Auto Fair

I attended this last weekend. Excellent experience. It has to be twice the size of Carlisle. I could spend only one day there, and I'm sure I saw less than half of what they had. I did try to walk as many of the car corrals as I could. They have a main one that is on the track itself, but there is also a cars-for-sale area for each of the swap meet fields. Some very nice Oldsmobiles were up for sale. Of all of them, I think the nicest was a '63 Dynamic 88. It was so clean and perfect that it really did look like it just rolled off the showroom floor.

It was a nice day. Maybe 65 degrees and mostly cloudy, so there wasn't a hot sun beating down all day.

I often wonder how many of the cars brought to something like this to be sold actually end up changing hands during the show. While it's probably likely that, once a car is sold, the new owner takes it away, so you won't see it there after it's sold, anyway, I did see only one Olds that had "sold" written on it. It was the white '65 Starfire convertible. I thought it was a beautiful car and a bit unusual because I had never seen one. It seems that I see Starfires of all the other years from that era, but I rarely see a '65, and, as I say, I don't think I've ever seen a '65 Starfire convertible.

Well, it wasn't exactly around the corner for me, either, with Charlotte being about 350 miles from where I live. But I made an overnight of it, driving down the Friday night before, spending the night, and getting there early on Saturday. After walking the fields for about 7 hours and still seeing probably less than half of what there was, I got tired and drove home. I found some parts that I needed, plus a few license plates to add to the collection. But it was well worth it because there is a lot to see. They also have an auction going on during both Friday and Saturday, and I would like to have watched that for a while, but I just didn't have time.
