Oldsmobile man
I was watching the Christmas Story on TBS, the line "Some men were Baptist and some were Catholic, my old man was an Oldsmobile man"
So how many of your Fathers were Oldsmobile men?
My dad worked for Olds 1968-88,88-2006 GM, we had 68,69 and 71 Cutlass, a 73 Delta 88 and a 76 98 Regency.
Picture circa 1970 with me and my dad with the 69 in the back ground.

Merry Christmas!!!!
And yes, I watched it first thing this morning just for that line. Dad was a Chevy man. I actually talked him into his first Olds in 88, a 98 Regency. He loved that car.

Well- it's like my Aunt Rene says, "We are Oldsmobile people."
My dad usually had a Chevrolet pickup of some sort around for the farm, and one uncle drove mostly Fords, but there were a whole lotta Oldsmobiles in my family's driveways.

You know, for a while this afternoon almost thought we were gonna have to do Christmas Story and go to a Chinese place to get dinner! What's left of my Dad's side gets together at the original homeplace with my aunt for Christmas Day supper- but she woke up sick this morning and unable to fix the meal. So- industrious sorts that we are, we cobbled together a Christmas Day supper from stuff in the B&B pantry and it turned out pretty good! It's more about family anyway.
And let me tell you that roast pork loin with home grown rosemary and an apricot jam glaze is as fine a meat course as you could ask for at Christmas dinner. There sure wasn't any of it left, and I kinda wanted some for lunch tomorrow...
Merry Christmas to everyone!

We had "A Christmas Story" on in the living room, but when our clan gets together you can't hear the TV anyway. Doesn't really matter, we've all seen it so many times we know the dialogue just from the scene
Dinner was my wife's fabulous lasagna plus a 10+ lb. ham with my candied sweet potatoes for good measure
By the way, my Dad was an Oldsmobile man since he got his first Olds in 1952- A hopped-up '50 88. He followed that up with a new '56 Super 88, and many more after that. He's 86 now and drives a Honda Accord, but luckily passed the Olds torch to me. I have enough for the whole family!

I stayed loyal to Oldsmobile up till the demise of my latest Ninety Eight. Then I moved on to Hyundai. I still love my 72, but I seriously doubt I'll ever buy another GM product again. Too many disappointments over the past 25 years.

Dad is a Ford guy to this day, his first vehicle I remember was a '65 F100. Mom was a Pontiac gal, the car she had when I was a kid was a '67 GTO, she now has 2 Hyundai Sonatas. Neighbors on both sides had Oldsmobiles. One side was a '65 Cutlass and the other had 2, a '66 F-85 and a '77 Cutlass Supreme. I have had 4 '66s. 2 F-85s and 2 442s. Still have a 442, will not buy another GM product, multiple problems, crappy dealer repair service and then killing Olds did it in. I own 2 diesel powered vehicles. a '06 Ram 2500 with 900 lb/ft of tq which gets 23 mpg hwy and '13 Passat TDI which so far gets 34 mpg in town, no highway trips yet but that will soon change.

My Dad owned everything BUT an Olds, Not much brand loyalty!
He went from a Comer to a Barracuda to Plymouth station wagons to International Travellalls to Volvo and Peugeot diesels and Subarus....
The Olds thing started with me in high school

My Dad was best friends with an olds dealer and all of us hung with his kids. Dad loved the station wagon ( or as we new it in Mass. "Beach wagon") We were the first to drive all the new cars every year the 442 88 and 98. Once he purchased a chevy wagon..in the first month the headliner fell and hit him in the head and a week later the fan motor smoked up the whole car. Before you knew it the chevy was gone and we got the Vista.
He would save all the cars and give them to the sons as we got old enough to drive.
Six boys in the family..at one time there were seven olds sitting in the driveway. Now I have the 64 88.

The old man was an Olds guy for many years, his first was a '38 Olds which he had just before he went into the service (WWII), left it in the care of his best friend, who pretty much wrecked it. Came down from Alaska in '57 in a '49 or 50 Ford woody, then followed that up with a '55 Buick Special (the first car that I recall) right around 1959-1960, the tranny went out on that, and he bought a '55 Holiday 88, pale blue/very light yellow, which my Oldest brother rolled and totaled. Things were tight for awhile, and he had a '49 Buick, the construction business (and the economy circa 1962) picked up and he bought a '60 88 flat top 4dr, sky blue, with a white painted top, (I liked that car) that was followed by a '64 Holiday 88 2dr, red with a white interior, 394 4bbl, limited slip (which he hated) and a car which I wouldn't mind today, he had that on the highway one Sunday when we were going to my aunts place, both me (in the back seat) and my mom had nodded off, I woke, looked over the front seat to see the speedo at 110....mom woke up a second later, SLOW DOWN!! heh, heh. The was followed by a '67 98 2dr, gold with a aquamarine cloth interior, what a floater! His complaint on that was that it was not as quick as the '64 (weight & gearing?) I only drove that a couple of times, once on my learners permit on a trip to grandma's in Arkansas, I was scared shitless, as it was the first time driving it, and we were on a business route somewhere by St. Louis, but didn't let him know it! drove it a couple more times when I was having problems ($) with my '68 Delta Custom, and he had bought a '71 98 Regency 2dr, a nice car...pulled like a locomotive, that was followed by a '74 98, and then he went to Chevy vans for pulling the camping trailer, and a boat (though the '71 had done plenty of that before), the vans were good for loading up to go north to their property, or pulling the trailers up to Alaska twice after my mom retired.
