oldsmobile cutless
I believe you are thinking of the Quad 4 engine. These engines were quite common in the early 90s. They were strong little engines. I believe Oldsmobile set some land speed records with them in the Salt Flats. However, when these engines were used in the Cutlasses they had a tendancy to overheat and blow headgaskets. This would lead to the heads warpping and possible lower end damage. I rebuit the head on one of these Quad 4s for my uncle years ago. It wasn't too bad, I made a few hundred dollars. I also remember my best friend's sister had a Quad 4 that blew a head gasket. I believe she sold the car even though she liked it alot.
I can't find any documentation to support that the Cutlass Supreme came with the little four cylinder (actually 2.3 liter). You might be referring to the Achieva which did or else just think the car has a four cylinder when it actually has a V6. At any rate there were 6,751 Cutlass Supreme convertables built in '93.
