So Andy, the original Paul Mayo car was Paul's actual car, and the lettered car was not Paul's car? The lettered car was identical to Paul's race car. I saw Paul's car new and at the track lettered. WOW.
The way it was told to me was the restored car was the original race car, then they built a clone of the race car which is right next to it in the display. That is what I was told when I was there.
Thanks for the pics.....as usual, one HECK of a show! As others have already said, put this on your bucket list.
Definitely , as my first time. Unlike anything you will ever see. The display of early 60’s factory light weight racers was unbelievable. I remember reading about these cars when I was a 12-13 year old in early 70’s. What a display.
I wonder how you show a car in this show. I think it's invite. I don't know if any of mine would make the cut, but at least I've been in other shows with some of these cars.

If you know someone that knows the folks involved w/the show, that can help make the initial "introduction". They do want very nice cars for the regular participants.....very nice restos, etc. Of course barn finds and vintage certification cars sort of speak for themselves. The "special display" or special group cars (like the 68/9 Buick GS cars this year) are typically organized by a person (or persons) heavily involved in whatever the particular brand or model is. You may remember the W31 display a few years back or the 66/67 Olds "Syndicate" cars not long ago. Also....there are the "Class of XXXX" cars each year (50 year anniversary year models).

My understanding is you send in a registration forum and they choose you or don’t. Definitely needs to be a nice car. I saw a ton of cars and all certainly weren’t concourse but very nice. I was told they will not use the same cars yearly. They want different cars different categories. A gentleman that’s had his cars in there several times told me that you can’t resubmit a car until after it hasn’t been there for three years. Which makes sense because he wants to go to a show of that caliber and see the same stuff every year. It’s an awesome show John . You should definitely participate one year.
My 72 GS Stage 1 convertible was invited in 2022 (50th anniversary) and my 442 as a survivor this year. Unfortunately, I couldn’t attend either show. However, it’s my intention to get one of my cars there. Both times, my car was recommended by a guy I know who runs a restoration shop and is involved with the show.

I know from experience this is a huge undertaking. That being said, I would like to thank anyone who brings their car to this show. The quality of the cars is staggering.
The 69 El Malo w31 race car was very cool. I talked to the owner for a bit about it, unrestored original car. He did have to have some of the lettering touched up and a couple duplicated. He had a book of info on the car and its race history.
