Olds 442 VIN Decode Help

Hello. Looking at an Olds represented as a 1966 442 but wondering if this can be verified with the VIN 338076M253824

Thanks!

That is the vehicle identification number and will not help identifying as a 442. Being a 1966 there may be some help from the cowl data plate in the engine bay. Post a clear picture of the data plate along with more of a description of your car. Attached is a picture of my 66 Cutlass data plate for help. Other members will be able to help also.

Thank you, Wayne. That is all I have at the moment. The car is at a dealer about an hour away. I will try to get a photo of the cowl data plate next time I am there.

Thats fine. Members are here to help. Oldsmobile did not keep records like some other makes so defining 442's for some years gets difficult. The "M" in your VIN number indicates your car was built in Lansing Michigan which is good news. On the cowl plate Lansing cars will have a "V" code on the 5th position for the 442 option. Looking forward to more information. There are a number of people on this for that can help with 442 identification but it always helps to get as much up front especially with 64 thru 66 for sure. I enjoy my 66 Cutlass Vert very much.

Keep in touch.

Wayne

Fortunately, it's a Lansing built car, so if it's a real 442, there will be a "5V" code towards the bottom of the cowl tag.

Joe, thanks for the comment." The red Cutlass air cleaner does not bode well, however etc."

Yeah, sorry. I deleted that when I realized that was not a photo of the car the OP was talking about.
