Dollar for dollar the Chevy engines give the best bang for the buck. I just hate seeing them in everything.

I have to agree. I'm a diehard OLDS man, but the LS series Chevy engines put out huge hp's and give uncanny mileage for a high performance engine.

Chevies have been the cheapest to build for many, many, years. Just look how cheap it is to get engine parts for the small block. I like keeping the car with the original makers engine, but certainly understand the need to keep the cost of a custom down.
Even when I was involved it dirt trackers in the 70s, a Ford engine was 2 times the cost of Chevies, and Chryslers were 3 times more.
