Oca ?
Oca ?
I received my JWO awhile back that had the financial report in it and there was no mention as to what happened to the CD that was in the clubs name. I sure hope it is being used for "miscellaneous" expenses. Funny that the financial stability in the past didn't require extra money for "miscellaneous" expenses. That being said, since I received my 30 year jacket it is farewell to the OCA.

I do not understand why this controversy has been opened back up. All of this happened last year and there has been some changes made since then.
Oh...Ed, you crack me up! Remember when you wrote this 6 years ago and assured us that changes were made? Now, it's like..."Hey, I got my jacket, I'm out of here!". Let's see, first the Cd's disappeared. One CD at 250K, or 2 CD's @ 250K? Who knows??? Then the list of judges disappeared. Now the membership records have disappeared, nobody knows how long you have been a member. You've got to have notarized proof of your time in the OCA. As I recall Ed, you were the guy that went to bat for these guys. Isn't that right?
We used to go to the Nats every year. The banquet in Gettysburg was the worst deal I've ever been to. I'm pretty much done with the OCA. If I want to go, I'll join for the year I go. But...people need to know what a "loosey-goosey" club this is. It's been swept under the rug for too long.

I am saddened to report this, I have never been to an OCA event but always wanted to help support the preservation of the brand by supporting the OCA as a dues paying member.
After reading a lot about the club here and seeing the way a lot of OCA members act on FB,I decided to stop paying dues and supporting the OCA with funds.

After reading all this I will not renew my membership. I am disappointed the club is run this way also it seems like all the events take place way too far from me . I joined thinking there would be local Oldsmobile club events
here in the SF Bay Area, but apparently not.

I guess I'm weird. I did not join OCA with a 30 year plan to get a jacket. I joined to be a part of a group of fellow Oldsmobile enthusiasts. I have made many friends over the years through the OCA. I am sure OCA is not perfect, but I do believe the people in charge now are heading the club in the right direction. If anyone out there finds a perfect car club let me know.

I agree with both of you! I didn't join for a jacket, either. I too have made friends and learned things at meets. I also agree that the people running the OCA now are doing a good job. It's the history that gets on my nerves.
The problem is that the geographic distribution of the club membership is heavily skewed to east of the Mississippi, and most of them in the Atlantic Northeast zone. That's not the club's fault, it's where the members live. Unfortunately it doesn't make a lot of sense to hold events where there aren't any members. As for the SF area, there is the annual NorCal/SoCal zone meet.
I have been a member of OCA for 35 years and wouldn't have it any other way. Sure I got a jacket and would be fine without it. OCA under the current leadership has brought us back on track as a club. I sure hope they have many car shows in Texas when I move there in February.

The OCA is running like a Swiss watch compared to thew old days
Only problem I have w/ OCA now is there seems to be absolutely no effort on part of current ASE Zone directors to develop chapters and activities in the Zone. The other Zones may be the same way. All I know is I worked my *** off for ten years to develop ASE only to be told in the 2000 Board meeting I hadn't done my job as a Zone director. So, even though a lot of people have asked me to consider running for ASE director again, it ain't gonna happen.
The remnants of the Eastern Virginia and Mid Atlantic chapters still get together informally. I sure would like to have another full-fledged Zone show.

You know I thought the show in Wichita was great. I have only been to two oca events. I think I would join if there was a chapter in Wichita. I am to old for a jacket LOL.

I have been an OCA member off an on for around 22 years. I was pretty steady the first 10 years and went to the 100 year anniversary meet and quite a few other national meets. Then, when I started working 2 jobs, I dropped out. I have been in/out for the last decade but stopped being a member a few years ago because the JWO magazine lost my interest and OCA just seemed to change into something that didn't interest me anymore! Our local OCA club, The Gem City Rockets ceased to exist and that took away our local show. I did not know about any problems with the way the old club was being run or about funds issues so that didn't affect my membership. I just wasn't interested in the media changes that were made and had no real connection after the local affiliate closed down. I'm sure there is a lot in the OCA for quite a few people and it's nice that they're still going forward. Things change and members change....such is life.
I do like hanging out at Classic Oldsmobile and wish I'd have come here sooner! A very nice site for Oldsmobile fans, Thank you!!

As I understand it, no OCA funds were "lost" and all are safely kept by the board and officers we have had for about 9-10 years now. I have been in the club almost 43 years and did not try to get into any politics. We have had good and bad leadership, just as any club or organization, but the spirit and purpose of the club are better than ever. Compare the recent Journey With Olds to older ones as one example of what we are getting now. There are attempts for more activities, as Joe P. noted, but the average age of club members is steadily creeping upward and it is harder to get a lot of participation in running such events.
If you want to do something, come to the OCA race this year. It will be held at Route 43 Dragway in Ethridge TN, a track run by the Hunt Brothers who have hosted Real Olds Power for many years. Last year we had cars from stock to heavily modified with elapsed times to match.
