Jeep, an Obama favorite, looks to shift production to China

Shame on JEEP Shame on anyone purchasing one after the "shift". We the consumer can send the message loud and clear to JEEP and all the other "sell-outs" by not purchasing a chinese made anything. Lets see how the bean counters like that! When will it ever end!
What happens, though, when ALL production is shifted overseas? If you want to buy a car, you have no choice but to buy one made in China or wherever.
What I find surprising is that it is actually worth it for Jeep to do this. I thought one of the things the big bankruptcies and reorganizations that occurred in the U.S. auto industry a few years ago did was to bring down manufacturing costs for U.S. companies. Different wage scales for new employees were adopted. Pension costs were shifted to the government or more onto to the unions or employees than before. No more paying laid-off workers 90% of their pre-layoff wages. That sort of thing.
Couple that with what is supposed to be rising wages in China, and I would think it wouldn't be as economically attractive as it was a few years ago for a company to move production there. On top of that, think of all the negative publicity this will bring down on Chrysler. I can't imagine that there are too many happy Toledo-ites right now.

Or you could read that the head of Jeep was saying they might make all their models, meaning every Jeep in their lineup, over there. For sale in China.
That piece was so slanted towards the bailout and anti-Obama its pathetic.
Whats really going on....

This is why most of our trucks are still made over here, including Japanese ones. Just watch out for production being moved to Mexico...

They sold Jeeps over there before. Now they are going to restart sales AND might offer the whole jeep line up instead of just a few Jeeps. Thats what they are "looking" into.
"....Romney apparently was referencing conservative bloggers who misrepresenteda Bloomberg story from Monday that discussed Chrysler’s decision to consider starting Jeep production in China, the world’s largest new-vehicle market.
That story, while accurate, sparked a raft of other stories and blogs that incorrectly concluded that Chrysler might close plants or move Jeep production from the U.S. to China.
Gualberto Ranieri, Chrysler’s vice president of communications, criticized those stories Thursday even before Romney made his comments.“Let’s set the record straight: Jeep has no intention of shifting production of its Jeep models out of North America to China,” Ranieri said. “It’s simply reviewing the opportunities to return Jeep output to China, for the world’s largest auto market. U.S. Jeep assembly lines will continue to stay in operation.”
What is with all the CHINA CHINA CHINA everything? Thats a organized labor talking point now in the front of everyone who has a opinions', brain. Jeeps Built In Windsor, ON
I have read that many different vehicles were manunfactured in Windsor, ON and in Essex and Kent Counties over the years, but I never knew that they built Jeeps in Windsor.
Pretty cool! I want to own one of them now too!

ok, maybe not China, but Italy?
"To counter the severe slump in European sales, Marchionne is considering building Chrysler models in Italy, including Jeeps, for export to North America."
