Not Gonna Believe It

Ok, so the ignition doesn't work all of a sudden - before I replace the ignition i noticed a plug that had no home; am I missing something and is this plug relevant?

2nd - who uses wire nuts in a car? I mean really? Any problem with me soldering these 3 together?

BTW - I am the guy with the chocolate milk in the engine; the FUBUR post. All looks good; replaced the lifters and rods - one of which was bent and scored - I would love to try and start this thing!

Ya'll have been a great help thus far!

The pink and orange wired connector would be for the kickdown switch on a TH400 trans, If you have the TH350, don't worry about it as it does nothing.
I would ditch the wire nut ASAP.

You see those 2 purple wires, one gets power to the neutral safety switch when the key is turned to start, the other will get power when the shifter is in park or neutral and the key is selected to start and sends power to the solenoid to engage the starter. Check voltages there first, if there is voltage there then check at the starter.
