No good deed ever goes unpunished....

Let a Nephew of mine start my 77 cutlass at a family party tonight and I didn't notice he had his foot to the floor.... before I could get the key it was too late. I can only asume at this point as to what broke, it still runs, with a crazy loud bottom end knock, and its running like its missing a cylinder. It sucks because the kid loves the car, and I love seeing kids get into the hobby. I should have watched him more closely. Unfortunately its my only car, and cash is very tight at the moment. I was hoping someone would possibly have a daily driver motor for sale, somewhat close to New Jersey. I would even be interested in a 6 cylinder, basically anything that could bolt to a stock bop th350. I just need to get back on the road. Thanks all for reading! and any help you guys can be. My only alternative is selling it. and I could never forgive myself if I did that

Bummer!

You may be able to remove the engine and do a quick backyard rebuild (new bearings, rings and hone the cylinders).

It could be a piece of carbon broken loose sitting on a piston top. I'm not trying to give false hope but have seen it happen.

Try to diagnose it, with the engine off pull one plug wire at a time to see if the knock changes, if it does change then it is a rod bearing. Don't pull the wires with it running unless you have the proper pliers and know how to do it.

Good luck!!!

Hey all. Thanks to everyone who wrote me about Motors they had and knew of for sale. I was able to find a good running 307 with only 60000 miles on it in Philadelphia. I picked it up today and we cleaned, and painted it. I'm going to start a new thread and post pics of the progress. Again, many thanks!
