new to the site, 87 cut
Whats up guys, i have just recently inherited an 87 cutlass supreme that has 15000 original miles!!
garage kept, i have done a fair amount of research on it but don't know a lot other that it has a sb 307 that puts out about 150hp, im wanting to start on a project car for fun i have a little money saved, i have read that this motor isn't a very popular motor for racing but i don't want to do a 455 swap, what all should i start off with to get this thing in the 200's, im wanting to have it running mid 14's if possible have around 2500 to spend for now, thanks,
this cars a step up from my turbo civic rice rocket,, anyone agree!!

Yeah the 307 isn't really a beefy powerplant and if it's an 87 like you said, I'm thinking, unless there is a "9" in the VIN you're probably running about 140 HP and maybe putting down 100. The car will run 18's at best, maybe a peak at 17's on a chilly day.
Yes a 350 SBO is the way to go. Paint it black and put on an edlebrock upgrade kit. You're 200r4 tranny will bolt up to it just fine.
The Edelbrock kit is on Jegs and comes with the Manifold,Carb,Cam,Rods, and Lifters to get you up to 400 HP and 397 Ft Lbs with ease with 1 3/4 inch header dumps. However this kit is non-emissions complant. This will not work on a 307 either
The kit is $730
That's what I should have done to my Delta

The 307 HO is known as the "9" motor and the other 307's are known as the "Y" motor.
The VIN will have either a 9 or a Y for the motor, the "9" motor had a better cam, great for the 1980's, but it's not the 1980's anymore.
A running SBO can be found, but it will take a while to find one. Took me 3 months to find mine. Sometimes you'll find a guy on here selling one. Craigslist.org is a good place to look as well
Jeg's has the kit.
There are places the sell SBO and BBO crate motors, you'll have to "Google" it. They aren't cheap

Why would you change anything when it only has 15,000 miles! I know its your car but if you do plan on an engine swap, do not butcher anything and keep the stock engine. Luckily an Olds 350 will swap right in with no modifications. Try not to change anything on the car that you cant undo. These cars are getting hard to find with such low miles and in good condition.
