Need your thoughts

Hi I am new to this site as stated in the newbie fourm I just picked up a 68 cutlass convertible. I don't a thing about it someone started to restore it they hung a new left rear quarter so any way when I got it home I wanted to check the condition of the floors and rockers and when I pulled the rugs I found not a speck of rust or rot any where in the rockers or floor pans they look perfect. So upon checking I found it to be a 350 with a four. Bbl intake no power brakes no ac manual windows basic plain Jane do any of you feel that it is worth doing a frame restoration giving how rock solid the body is or should I just work it on the frame. Please let me know your thoughts. Thank you

It really depends on what you want out of the car ?

In my opinion it's really not that much more work , but it will add a lot more to the budget when you count frame work and paint, powder coat, por15 what. Ever you choose to do with it .

Good luck and post some pics when you can

Welcome, post some pictures when you get a chance. To your questions, if you plan on building a driver quality car that you can enjoy in all kinds of weather, then no I would not pull the body. I would do a frame on resto. That's what I basically did with mine. I can drive it in any type of weather and enjoy it.

Sounds like an interesting rocket. I always liked the 68 Cutlass. If you're anything like me, no matter what you do today, you'll wish you'd done something different later. As long as you have fun, that's the main thing.
Taking the body off the frame is really painful. Doesn't take long, but snapping half the bolts and cutting open caps to fix them is really annoying. I like oldcutlass's idea of leaving it on the frame.
Also like oldstata's idea of pictures...love pictures. I always have to reduce mine to 80% or they don't take.
Chow, and welcome to the club,
Dave

X3, I wouldn't do a frame off unless I wanted a trailering show car.

I'm nearly done with my frame on resto, I painted the entire underneath but I am not even going to drive it in the rain so it should stay nice underneath. Search my posts for pics. No matter what, do it because you enjoy it!

Sounds like my kind of setup so its all in what you like.
I would do a frame on and drive it as soon as you can while restoring it so you don't lose interest and sell it.

Right on, brother !!
Funny how every little thing seems to lead to fifty other little things. I'm trying not to be too fussy with my cars right now.

Dave

Yes indeed, I been soaking mine for over a year , two sprays of zep 45 each bolt twice a week . Hopefully soon it will pay off
If you don't need the body off definitely keep it on .
I have trunk repair needed and frame work needed figured it would make life easyer in the long run
