Cool Need help from the old timers!

I am trying to figure out what state my 1977 Y76 Special Edition originated in. I have recently decided to sell the car and I am getting asked that by several buyers. This car has the Argent Wheels, sport chrome mirrors, Staineless Steel band across top, fastback glass, and special edition badging on the door handle. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and i guess if the younger guys know they could help too lol

Thanks in advance,

PS Im new to the Forum stuff so please take it easy on me as i may not know all the rules.

doesn't the VIN tell you where it was born? I'm guessing Lansing, Michigan.
Nice car.

Im sure the VIN will state the origin, but from what i have found the Y76 options were added by a dealer maybe. The car has lost its badging at some point in its lifespan so i cannot correlate with the list on that website. I was wondering if there was any other way to tell. I guess the body tag wouldnt notate those mods if the VIN deosnt. right?

Are you asking where the car was built or where it was originally sold?

And you didn't really hide your license plate.

That is a pretty cool car! If your car has been in the OKC, OK area its entire life I would bet it was sold by Eskridge Oldsmobile. That is who sold mine.

From the pictures in your craigslist ad you can see what looks to be a digital clock on the passenger's side of the dash. What is it?

More importantly, what are the stickers on the driver's side bottom of your windshield? Maybe one of those stickers can help determine where the car was originally sold.

Well, since you bought the car in NY that probably means it wasn't sold by Eskridge.

After looking at your pictures, there's nothing evident that will tell you what zone this car was sold in. What will tell you is an original registration or bill of sale. That will narrow it down to identifying the badging that you'd find in droldsmorland's post. Being a Lansing car doesn't mean it couldn't have been shipped anywhere in the country, even though there were other Olds plants. It has obviously been sold several times and likely repainted too. Since you're in NY area though it's highly likely it's from the east coast and if so, it has been very well cared for. I don't see any signs of corrosion on it. Beautiful looking car, too bad you are selling it. I've driven them and they're great riding cars.

What engine does it have? I liked the 350, but if it had a 403 that would be really sweet. You can tell the 403 by the distinctive valve cover flanges, and the big 403 that's cast onto the side of the block (both sides) below the 4/6 and 3/5 plugs.

You could buy the special edition/limited edition etc.. badges for door handles at almost any major part stores.
You could choose from many back in the early 80's.
I had bought a pair that just said Oldsmobile back then.
I haven't seen them for sale in years so they would be rare now ya

So THAT'S why you stuck your fingers up like that. I've seen that sort of thing before in car ads, and I always thought it was because the seller wanted to show everyone his new manicure.

My point was you didn't really. Between two of the pictures it is easy to make out the plate number.
I get why you did it even though I don't understand the idea behind it.
Every time you drive a TON of people see your plate and it is photographed a ton more times.
To each their own I guess.

Nice car and GLWS.

It's entirely possible that your car was not a sales zone promotion car. Y76 was available as a Regular Production Option and wasn't always tied to a dealer marketing group promotion.
