Need advise for jute and carpet installation ...

I'm finishing the sound deadening material soon and needed to know if I spray glue the entire jute padding or just spot glue here and there. Same with the carpet. Tried searching for previous threads but I couldn't find. Thanks!

I just spot sprayed mine, all your looking for is to lay flat, especially on the hump

I'd say no glue at all. You have the deadner, there should be jute or backing on the carpet. If it's loose around the hump, you buy or use some of the old jute to fill the areas around the hump. I've done a lot of carpets and never used any glue.

Spot glue, but only if you must. This is what happens to floorboards when the jute is glued down. There is no separation between the metal and the insulation so water stays there and eats the metal. Even with the nice sound deadener you have in there. Water is insidious and will find a way in there and stay there. Glue makes it almost impossible to remove the carpet for any reason and sometimes it needs to come out on these old cars.

Ok,thanks for the tips. So the molded carpet should stay in place with no glue at all. I'll try it. 👍

I have done a bunch. I never used any glue, the carpet is held down in so many places it won’t move. It’s molded to fit as well. All the originals I pulled didn’t appear to be glued either. Original air conditioned cars had a foil backed fiberglass sheet under just the front area. It’s called for in the assembly manual with foil side up. I like to get the roll of foil backed jute they sell at Pep Boys and I use it on all carpet jobs even with no AC. Used on top of sound deadener it does a great job of eliminating heat. I cut out area under gas pedal to eliminate restricting pedal travel.

I have installed 3 carpet sets this decade[69-442, 70-CS and 71-CS].
I Never used glue for carpet. I always used new carpets from online companies.
I will sometimes use RTV on the Self-Sticking foil insulation in a few places, such as inside the doors and some vertical areas sparingly.
Near the Gas pedal, I often need to Trim away some of the Jute from this section to avoid a bulge near the peddle.
To help keep the car flat, I use Cinder-Blocks with protective padding under the block to help flatten the carpet over night.

Measure 3 or 4 times and cut once.

Ps Jungle cat. Thanks for the drawing. I am installing my 4 set of carpet next week on a 71-CS.

Finished the kilmat material. Took me around 5 hrs. I've got the jute, just waiting for carpet from oldsparts.com, they had to mold me a 4dr carpet cause they don't stock it. 😁
