I have a 1967 Cutlass convertible that I have owned for nearly 20 years. I am about to do a frame off rotisserie restore. I am not a purest looking to restore the car to the day it came off the assembly line. I'm interested in a cool muscle car look that has a little muscle. The car was originally black but was painted red years ago. I have chosen to go back to black because I think it will be cool. I have seen internet pics of a 1967 with a red pin strip that is what looks like 3/16 or 1/2. I am including the picture of it here as well as my red 67. The front brakes are disc and the rear are drum.
I am going to duplicate the pin strip posted here with either red or yellow. I will paint the calipers and drums to match. Keep in mind the car will be black. Interior is black, roof will be white.
FYI...I'm pulling the 330 and replacing it with a rebuild 1970 455. I am pulling the dash cluster and replacing it with Dakota Digital. I pulled the transmission and replaced it with a 700r4. The rear gears changed from 3:73 to 3:42 with limited slip.
Opinions very much needed.......am I making a mistake by putting a yellow pin strip instead of a red pin strip pictured below.... (3/16 or 1/2) as pictured below. I would like to add a yellow pin strip to my 67 convertible similar to this in red? I'd really like to get some opinions. Or should I stick with the Red?
Red stripe on black would look good. Yellow would be ricey. I found a template of the stripe online, and I think it was 5/16 & 1/8". I have it printed somewhere, just saw it recently....
The pin stripe was made optional as well during the year some time during the run. We've got a tech memo on it. So, no stripe is an option should you desire.
Be bold. Make it permanent. Get a Beugler pinstripe tool. And another vote for red on black. Even gold on black would be ok, just not the lemon yellow.
Choose the color that YOU like best! Remember, YOU have to live with it! The factory stripe on the '67 cars is a double stripe that meets at the end; one stripe is 1/8" and the other is 1/16" wide. It appears that the factory used something like the Buegler tool as shown in post #10. I like the idea of using a tape stripe initially so you can see if you like it.
check with your local body shops they should be able to connect you with a local pin stripper and have it painted on also the stripper could put different color combinations on for you to chose from. My stripper likes putting purple on black cars I know it sounds wrong but looks really good.
