Need Advice on 1962 F-85 Cutlass Conv

Hey Guys, I found a 1962 F-85 Cutlass Conv for sale by private owner; I haven't seen it yet but will shortly. Owner says it's all original, low mileage. Any opinions on the potential value and collectability of this car? I didn't find much on the Internet. Has the factory aluminum V8 engine and "roto-hydramatic" transmission. I will have more details soon. Would appreciate any comments on this Olds model. How easy is it to find parts? Reliability of this engine / transmission? Etc... thanks!

The 61-63 cars are unique and somewhat rare these days. They are actually based on the Corvair platform, but obviously with a front engine and conventional rear axle (though the Pontiac version, the Tempest, used a modified Corvair transaxle and suspension). These cars are unibody, not body on frame like the 64-88 cars. Also, they are nowhere near as popular, so few parts are available as repros.

The aluminum 215 is based on a Buick design (hence the front distributor) and is a cool little motor. As the horsepower wars raged in the 1960s, GM sold the design and rights for the motor to British Leyland (now Rover) who contined to build it up until just a few years ago. The Rover version was made in the original 3.5 liter version in addition to other versions up to 5.0 liters. The Rover versions also have very cool EFI systems that are now starting to show up in wrecking yards around here. Of course, Olds offered the turbocharged Jetfire version of this engine in 1962 and 1963.

I've always liked the 61-63 cars, but be aware of the limited parts availability. You will not find patch panels. You will not find disc brake conversion kits. You will be hard pressed to find transmission rebuild parts. You will not find repro upholstery. If you don't mind scrounging for parts, go for it. If you want a project that has easy parts availability, this isn't it.

I have 2 1962 Olds F 85 Cutlass conv. and I have found that parts are very limited! If you can get your hands on good parts cars or lots of parts that are worth while, go for it! My 62 is yet to be restored, I am still looking for Transmission and other misc. parts and have found a few good resources! But prices have been a little steep!
