NASCAR Quote

Tony Stewart said this about the new NASCAR design:
"Oh, what a basket of junk," it drives like a station wagon, an old station wagon, like an old Oldsmobile station wagon, green with wood panel trim on the sides." - Tony Stewart

What a funny guy!

Considering he's talking about something that's a racing car and comparing it to something that's not a racing car, I can see his point.

Guess Tony will just have to learn how to drive it. You can learn a lot driving a wagon with some horsepower at 196 MPH.

X2. Is he even old enough to have driven a new one?

I prefer Stirling Moss's quote:

"It is better to go into a turn slow and come out fast, than to go into a turn fast and come out dead."

And you are really concerned with what Tony Stewart thinks?

Outside NASCAR, what is he? Just another loud mouth that doesn't know when to be quiet.

I just never quite "got" the hero aspect of a NASCAR driver.

I think he was describing the wagon in National Lampoons "Vacation". Or was that a Buick?
Anyway, all the drivers complain about the new cars, even if the end up winning in them.

I think it's a great comment. I don't think he was dissing Oldsmobiles. He was just making an understandable comparison. As a driver of many big Oldsmobiles, I know they work best running in a straight line. Drifting one around a sharp curve at a high rate of speed IS a challenge! Been there. Done that.

Rocket331,
I agree. Actually I was not trying to be facetious. I do think he is a funny guy. That qoute was him thinking fast. For an "off the cuff" statement I think he did rather well.

BTW: He did rather well yesterday also - avoiding that horrendous crash to win the race. Not only funny but lucky too.

Gary,
At the start of Vacation, they show a vista cruiser. He trades it in at the dealer for the "family truckster" which is a Ford wagon. When they show the vista cruiser being crushed, it's not the same car as the one they traded in. If you look carefully, you can tell they are not the same car.
