My first wrenching for 2010...

and it wasn't even on one of my cars .

The company has a number of 2002 Astro Vans. One of them stopped starting. Turned out to be the starter motor itself. Pretty easy job even with the few decent tools we have here (mostly electronics tools and small wrenches, etc.). So now that my fingernails are dirty, as soon as the driveway dries out I can start working on my cars.

Funny how motivation takes different forms some times.
I just finished a side welding job on a dump trailer and while working on it in the bay adjacent to my project car I started to want to work on my car again. Trailer done, happy customer! Started up on the project car again...

An eqiup. manager by trade I'm always wrenching and making sure my tech's have what they need.

Helping friends with projects is motivation, I think my 442 is therapy

Amen to that! I enjoy helping friends with their projects too. This morning the operations manager asked me if I wanted to do more of that kind of work around here. As if I didn't have enough work to do already. He knows it is cheaper to pay me what the company does than to pay a dealership or repair shop to do the same thing, counting their overhead and everything else they have to figure in. I told him I would have to think about it.

Come on Dan, just pick up the wrenches and get out there.

Is that motivating enough?

I know about how cold wet weather reduced the desire to go out - I have had my share this year. At this time last year, I had just finished most of the interior of my car, and just last month I started to continue the last part. I am making good progress, so THAT is real motivation to keep going (despite the big snowfall a few days ago.)

Compaines like it when you save them money by doing work not in you job discription. I am often called out on weekends because of my extensive background in industrial controls, now I am a saleried employee and when I do this the company charge me out at an hourly overtime or doubletime tech rate. Do you think I ever see any of this on my paycheck, no the weekend work is a freebe for the company.
