mice

I keep getting mice inside my car. I find droppings, they chew on stuff and make nests in my console. I set traps and put them on the floor. I don't want to poison them for fear of them dying in the dash or air ducts somewhere. How do I get rid of them and keep them away?

Try putting mothballs in your console. Of course you car is going to smell like one of your grandmothers or Aunt Mables old coats. I would put some Decon in the garage. It kills them pretty quickly.

I fond some droppings in my old stored away 69' Datsun roadster. In fear of them chewing the convertible top I bought a bunch of those sticky traps and set them all around my tires with some peanut butter in the middle. I put some on the floorboards of the car too!. I also trapped around the edges in the garage where the run etc.. I lived near a field at the time

I caught about 8-10 field mice this way (none in the car). No more droppings in my car either. I had a useless fat-assed cat that was scared of mice..

X5 Bounce

Also, I constructed a wooden box approximately 12"X12" X 4" High. with a removable [screws] top.

I cut a hole in the side with a 3/4" bit and screwed a tuna fish can in the middle of the bottom

Load up the tuna fish can with your favorite rat/mouse poison.

This keeps the poison away from cats, kids and other critters you don't want to harm and the mice seem to like to go in dark spots to eat. Most poisons make mice crave water so they will ususally go off to drink and hopefully die.

I know mothballs work. Don't like the smell, and not crazy about the smell of softener sheets, either.
Latest I've heard from reliable sources is Irish Spring bar soap.

I like the sticky trap method. Buy a case of the Bell or Catchmaster "glue boards" - they are about 4"x6" and pretty cheap (72 for about 30 bucks).
Stick them together all around the wheels as mentioned above. Put more around areas where mice can enter garages or sheds, or what not. I mainly use them to trap the over-abundant small lizards we have here in the summer... So far I have found none in the house and very few in the garage.
I have also caught 3 mice and a baby copperhead, not to mention three birds, one cat, and my neighbor who did not watch where he stepped...

The nice thing is the glue can be easily dissolved with cooking oil to free desired critters or to get the trap of one's boots...

I had mice that wanted to make a home in my 56....then I realized that the car wasn't their first goal...It was the birdfood that was stored in the garage. The 56 was just a nice place to go eat it. Once I removed all the food sources from the garage...ie bird seed, garbage, etc. The mice left too...
