Made next issue of Hemmings muscle machines
The next issue of Hemmings Muscle Machines will have a gold 1970 w-30 convertible 4 speed. This was one of our goals in our efforts to share the car after our 30 years of ownership and mostly just storing it in the garage unrestored. We were able to show it at four major car venues. The final step for our family will be the Newport Beach CA Russo and Steele auction in June to move the car to another caretaker. What a pleasure to have found such a special car and finally able to bring it back to its original glory. Thanks to all of you that shared in the restoration and were able to see the car finished. I will continue to be an Olds guy by keeping my 1971 442. Lee

Lee congratulations.
A very special car from a very special owner. That gold convertible was destined to be owned by you and your family.
I've enjoyed studying the Yenko.net Supercar registry and following the last year as you have opened up the possibility of a new owner for the car.
I believe that your car is precisely the reference of born with , and should be preserved as such. Be proud of your stewardship and preservation.
Hopefully there will be several buyers , and buyers representatives ready to make your auction experience as positive as possible. Where your car is headed is rarefied air for sure.
Again , Kudo's , and find a way to enjoy every minute of your entire process . Thanks for sharing your car . Jimi

Ahh nuts! I just let my subscription go a few months ago! Looks like I'm heading to the store
Congratulations indeed, Lee. We couldn't ask for a finer specimen to represent our beloved GM brand.

Great job!! I look forward to seeing it in the magazine and I hope it goes well at the auction!! Truly a great car. People are beginning to recognize what awesome cars these were and how few were made and how few are left in the condition yours is!!

Thanks for the kind words. Getting the article was a goal related to our car. Pictures were taken a year and a half ago so the timing of the article was total luck related to the auction. Lee

Hi Lee,
Congratulations on being selected for HMM! I love that magazine so I will see your article when it arrives at my house. HMM does seem to do a lot of articles on Oldsmobiles, which doesn't bother me in the least! And, to see a 1970 W30 ragtop featured, well, it will be the first article I read when it arrives here! Congrats again!

My copy came yesterday and looked through it briefly but haven't read it yet (I've been getting it since day one and always read EVERY word of every page of that great magazine). Your pictures are great but I was surprised, as rare as it is with the W-27 rear housing, they didn't have any shots highlighting it. I'm looking forward to reading it. Congratulations again Lee.

I read the article today. Jeff did a great job. The highlight was my daughter driving the car for the photo shoot. It is hard to sell but as a caretaker for 35 years I have completed my time with the car and goals. So many special cars never made it through the gas crisis in the early 80's. If someone other than me found the car it is likely it would not have survived to be one of the better examples of the Oldsmobile muscle car era of the 70's. They also would not have found the original owner. I Kept the car safe for 35 years, restored it the best I could afford, showed the car and ended with a feature article in the best muscle car magazine. The auction in a few weeks will be a fun end or not. It is a reserve auction so I don't need to sell it under reserve unless I want to and if it goes over reserve it will move to a new caretaker and continue to be appreciated. Still a nice story.......Lee

For those that haven't seen the article but would like to see the "Cliff Notes" version of the story, Russo Steele has a nice write up and pics:

Wow Lee. What a great car and a great story. This is one of the things I like about HMN. They capture the story and the spirit of the car. You have done a great job as the caretaker. The history cannot be replaced. The next owner will thump his chest on such a great car he bought but he will never have the emotional attachment to it that makes it special. Because of its value he will never be able to drive and enjoy it. His daughter will probably never ride in it much less drive it. It will be like a stock certificate stuck away in a safety deposit box!
