Question Machined hole in lower dash

Hi everyone,

My car has a machined hole in the lower dash to the left of the steering column. Any know what this would be for/from? Thanks.

It sure looks like it belongs to the dash - definitely came with the car. Perhaps a lamp went there to tell you when your cruise control was on. Any loose wires or lamps in the back of dash tucked in somewhere close by?

looks like a spot welded washer, or the end guide for a throttle/choke cable ...

It does look like the guide or escutcheon collar for one of those type controls that was added later.

Yup, looks like the car had a carb w/ a manual choke sometime in the past. Maybe it's still on & choke's disconnected?

In the "way back" I remember some cars had a red light on the dash to indicate that the emergency brake was still engaged; however, I don't remember that being on an Olds such as yours. Just a thought.

That is not a factory hole.

I'll closely inspect the hole (front and back) and report the findings. It won't be until next week, though - driving up to Green Bay for the Vikings/Packers game

By the way, the car has a 4 bbl carb (if it matters in the discussion).

Aron, I believe you are thinking of the Flarestat package from the mid 1960s.

I also think this looks like the remnants of a manual choke cable. Look for evidence of a non-stock drilled hole in the firewall where it might have been routed.
