Lost my best friend today
Lost my best friend today
I know its not about cars, but I lost my best friend, my dog of almost 17 years today. Her name is Beaner, minature Daschund long hair. The house seems so empty, as does my heart. My wife and I are in a major funk now. She was smart, funny, sweet, loving and such a pleasure. Things just wont be the same without her. We miss her so much.
So posting it here just helps me vent a little.

Pets become family members especially after 17 years. My wife and I had a cocker spaniel for 17 years. Maggie was my last dog and she developed a tumor in here bladder when she was 9 and we had to put her down. I haven't cried that much since my Mother passed away. It has been over two years and it still hurts. We have another dog that is cute and sweet but she is really my daughter and grandsons dog. A lot of people say get another pet soon and that probably works for some folks. I don't know if I ever will. Time will help but I know it really hurts and leaves a hole in your heart. My condolences for your loss.
Thank you guys, I appreciate it. I dont think I will ever get another dog, this just sucks big time. No dog could replace her. Believe me alot of tears have been shed. Im having her cremated, I want to be there for it, so that will be next Tuesday.... more tears. Shes my little girl, damn I miss her.
Vent away,.. We put our Sebastion down just over two years ago.. Photo was taken the day before. Seventeen years and without a doubt the best fifty dollars I've ever spent. He was my best friend

Very sorry for your loss, Steve.
I also know how it feels.
Lost who I considered my soul mate 2 years ago......Eli:

Wasn't going to replace him. Figured I'd never find another like him.
My kids kept insisting, so, I agreed.
Got really lucky.
Ellie is Eli's replacement.

She was a "problem child" rescue dog at first,
but, she's become a wonderful dog as well.
You might want to eventually consider a new "Beaner".
I think about Eli everyday, but, it's definitely good having Ellie around.

Sorry for your your loss. I know it seems hard now, but as time goes by you will probably start to consider doing it again. It is strange, but it seems that they understand that we will outlive them. I think that is why they give us so much of themselves while they are here. They are truly remarkable creatures.
Been there before in the last year! Lost my pet rabbit. I still think about him and start to well up. Doing that now!
I am sorry for your loss!!!!
Pets are family.

I am so sorry for your loss. You have to remember that as unfortunate as it is 17 years is a really long time to have Beaner and I know that you gave her the best life anyone could have given her. There is another dog out there in a shelter somewhere that needs a family to love it. Sounds like it will soon be time for you to go find her/him. You will always have great memories of Beaner and make new ones with your new friend. Take care
Steve, Very sorry for your loss. Those of us who have lost pets know the empty feeling and remember the tears. We remember the good times as well. Good that you can share your feelings with others in this forum.
I have no problem with you memorializing your dear dog here. Give it a while, and then see about another dog. They can't love you for all of your life, just all of theirs, and, just like a dog doesn't mind you having more than one dog, they won't mind you getting another when they're gone.
I too am sorry for your loss. Had to put down a boston that was my buddy a few years ago. Got a pound puppy within a few months later. You can't replace what you lose, but so many out there that need a good home that you can provide.
Dezi
Guys:
Damn, you all got me tearing up reading these posts and thinking of my Black Lab named Dezi, had her since she was a puppy. She developed diabetes late in life around 13 years old, I took her blood twice a day and gave insulin as needed. She made it to 16 years old, then her Vet told me it was time to make a decision since her quality of life had changed. It was without doubt the hardest thing I've been thru since I lost my Dad.

I have two wiener dogs one full size one miniature of course there names Mickey & Minnie guess which one is the miniature ? Anyway real sorry for your loss after a week or so get back on that horse and get a puppy. It's the only cure for the empty house. Good luck
The pic is Minnie pain in the *** female, high maintenance princess. The other one Mickey (no pic on my phone) is awesome rides on my quad, my bike, has to be in the garage with me especially when I'm working on something. All boy. He's like a toddler facinated when someone comes to fix something. Loves tools. Just the opposite low maintenance.

So sorry for your loss Steve. We had a Golden Retriever that was with us
for 16 yrs. Her hip dysplasia got so bad we had to put her down. It is so hard.
As a puppy she grew with my youngest son, we got her when he was one.

I remember a guy I use to work with years ago losing a dog and I remember how hard he was taking it. At the time I thought to myself, man he's taking it awful hard for just a dog... At the time I was young single guy fresh outta the Marines
It wasn't until over a decade later that I understood his feelings, when we lost our black lab "buddy". Sometimes pets become more than just pets and are a big part of the family. Our dog was Loved by anybody that spent anytime around him. Haven't been able to get another one since. He was truly a special dog as I'm sure yours was. My condolences, Steve.

So sorry to hear about your loss. I too lost my best friend just a little over a week ago, and it is still hard for me. I know exactly how you are feeling. I never gave much thought to the "Rainbow Bridge", however, the last 2 dogs that passed away, on the way home from the vets, we experienced a rainbow in the sky. Below is my very lovable Ferrous, just a week or two before he passed. Tomorrow, the 27th he would have been 15.
Hey thanks everyone, it was July 14th and wow I just hate the emptiness of her not being here.
Junkman I sorry too for you. I had my little girl cremated and now shes with me in a different way. Shes in a cedar box. The people who did the cremation were great. There was some things they gave us that included the Rainbow Bridge story. Man that will get the tears flowing, but thats what im hoping for. If there is life after death I hope to see my Beaner again, at the Rainbow Bridge. Anyone who has lost a pet should read the story, its short and quite a tear jerker.

I feel your pain... we lost Tucker, our 10 year old Golden Retriever just over 2 weeks ago and I'm still getting bleary eyed. We're not in a position to consider another pooch, and that makes it even worse. We've had Golden's since 1979 and it's just not gonna be the same.
Sorry for your loss. I have temporaly delayed that for our 12 year old collie. About 2 weeks ago he stopped eating and was getting sick everywhere lost about 10 pounds. Vet helped us get him straight, he is eating again and put back on about 4 pounds. He is not totally better and not out of the woods. The hardest thing is to know when to do the best thing for your dog. My wife and I probably waited to long for our last 2.

x2 on that. We had our cat Amber put down a couple years ago. She had cancer and was almost 18 years old. My wife said no more pets....After some time we talked about and I said why would we not give another rescue cat/dog the same love we gave Amber. We settled on an older kitty at the rescue center and she has completely taken over the house....All pets are different and cannot be replaced. But, given some time maybe you can see giving your love and attention to another puppy! Hang in there. There are more people who understand what you are going through than you think.
