I hope nobody takes offense but it is like this guy ask for a doctor and we told him how to perform open heart surgery. You guys have offered great advice as always on here. Maybe he won't need the mechanic.

I heard a rumor this car is now tucked away in the shop of some hack. It will probably never be the same again.

Are not electric fuel pumps supposed to be mounted back at and lower than the tank as they are not puller but pushers when to comes to fuel delivery? How is the filter sock on gas sending unit?

Yes!

Richard has it (gearheads78). You can kind of see it in that thumbnail he posted above. There's a flow issue, and he hit me between the eyes with a bunch of others issues. I'm at a crossroads with this car to say the least.

It'll run when he's done, but I'm in over my head with this car. I've owned it for over a year and a half now and I might've driven it 20 times. I'm a driver not a mechanic, and it looks like I bit off more than I can chew. The pocket book has taken too big of a hit. It's probably just time to part ways.

I have no sentimental investment with this car. More like a hate/hate relationship. It's just going to come down to how much money do I want to lose. I can keep and lose money, or sell it and lose money.

Decisions, Descisions...

You're exactly right Oldsmaniac about the fule pump (I just learned that)...The fuel sock is new. I had it replaced when I had the tank replaced. There's other issues...venting, lines, etc. Flow seems to be the issue. Gearheads78 is putting a Mechanical one back on there.

It can't be that hard nor expensive to get fuel to the pump and then to the carb. Richard is a good mechanic and should be able to get you going.

Waiting on a couple of parts and should be back on the road again. Hoping parts will be here before Friday so I can knock it out this weekend.

Wait, your electric fuel pump is in the engine bay? with no Mech. Fuel pump?

If that is correct that might be your culprit. Your electrical pump is on the wrong side of the fuel line. It pushes fluid not pulls it. I would move that back by the tank at the least, might want to also put in the mechanical pump as well.

Had the same problem with my Rallye when i bought it and it was a bad electrical fuel pump. Put a stock mechanic one and no problems since. Also with the HEI did you thicken the wire that is going into the dist? That will also cause it to die but it will not sputter it will just die.

Sorry, didnt realize there was a second page to this one lol. Richard is a great guy to have work on your car though and by the sounds of it you might be better off selling it or something. Although with the economy the way it is...

I fixed and improved lot of other mis stuff while I had it but there were several reasons the car would not run.
-main vent caped with a electrical wire nut so only had the small vent still open
-pin hole in the fuel supply line where it was rubbing on the chassis
-weak electric fuel pump mounted on the front fender trying to suck the whole length of the car and overcome a hole in the straw and vacuum inside the tank.

Nice work, maybe now the owner can enjoy the ride instead of wanting to push it off a cliff.

I took it on a cruise last night...starts up and drives nicely. It's fun to just Drive again!

BUT...

Remember that screw in the left rear tire? I started to take it out and air started leaking. I was on borrowed time. I cant believe I drove that thing about 70mi (From Richard's and last night's cruise) on that bad tire, no jack, no spare.

Got a spare today and Now I'm looking for a couple of 245/60/15's. No one carries them. They have to be ordered.

This job I can handle though...but it's just another thing keeping me off the road.

womp womp!

Or just run to Wal Mart or something and get a plug kit. They work quite well depending on where the screw was.
