I gotta agree with Glenn. License plate frame will solve the whole problem after you treat the rust and carefully repaint that area so it don't rust no mo'.

3M is a manufacturer. Comes in colors and a transparent coating you apply over a base color. Grainger may be a distributor.

As long as you have an old registration showing those plates were on that car, DMV will let you leave them on. There's a memo somewhere on their website that explains it.

I would agree with the above... If the extent of the damage is what is shown, I would be very reluctant to start from scratch. The biggest challenge would be finding a white that would match the original tag color. White is a very difficult color to match. If you could match it well, then perhaps sealing the whole thing down in a clear coat would provide another layer of protection as well as float the repaired area a bit. They still look pretty respectable to me

Vajenya was still using steel plates then. After they switched to aluminum in 1973, rusting problems went away. Not sure what to tell you on matching the white- that's why I suggested finding a nice frame to disguise the touchup area a bit.

I have a set of Oldsmobile Plates that I picked up at an antique shop.

Not sure if they are antique or even worth anything but they are cool up on the wall in my man cave.

Anyone know anything about these - if they are antique or worth anything?
