Let’s discuss brake controllers
The Reese brake controller in my truck is almost 30 years old. While it still works, I have little doubt brake controller technology has improved over the years.
The biggest issue: the rotary dial on the side that controls how fast the brakes activate is pretty scratchy. I have tried spraying electrical contact cleaner in it, without much long term success. Either the potentiometer is sealed, or enough cleaner can’t get inside to really clean things up. So I leave it alone in the position it needs to be in when the trailer is fully loaded. Unfortunately, when unloaded in stop/go traffic, the instant brake application/release gets uncomfortable.
I kinda like the digital display, I see the brake force to one number when the trailer is empty, another when loaded, no guessing.
I know there are many inertia promotional style controllers available, I assume those work by sensing how fast the truck is slowing down, and adjusting the brakes to match?
I have a trip to Knoxville planned for later this month to retrieve the last of my daughter’s stuff from her apartment. That means dealing with the Florence and Knoxville stop/go traffic. So if anyone has a controller they are really pleased with, I’m all ears. More importantly, if there is one out there you absolutely despise, I’d like to know!!
thanks.

Matt, it may have oxidation in the contacts. With power off, like disconnected from the truck, spin the **** back and forth like 50 times. You should feel it get smoother. This may help. This works on all rotary and sliding controls like balance and volume *****.
