One mistake I made which I will fix today is that the back two center seatbelt groups need to be bolted in with the webbing going UP. Doing this will increase the length of the belts. It is funny that I woke up at 1am, thought about this, and looked it up in the body manual to confirm… The Olds Gods have control of me I suppose…
My Blue Belle had factory installed front DeLuxe seat-belts. I guess that was the only option in 1965. I'm ordering some seat-belts for the rear seat, but I have absolutely no idea where to attach them! I have the 1965 Body Services Manual and there is not a mention of rear belts either in the "B" body or the "C" body sections. I think I might mount them on the slant portion of the floor where it goes up to the trunk divider about a foot below the top pump.

Where did you bolt yours?

Thanks,

Don/Rob, I don't mean to hijack, but I had a pic handy of where the rear belts are mounted in a '72.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, Robert! I don't mind and Rob wont either!

Thats right where I thought they should go. Were your rear belts factory installed? In 1965 it wasn't an option!

Thanks, again.......

IMHO

Just drilling some holes isn't good enough. It needs to be reinforced.

Yep, factory.

I would agree with Jamesbo. If there are no provisions or reinforcement in place I would be sure to beef that area up. A set of aftermarket belts I bought for and old Jeep years ago came with large (2" diameter) washers to put on either side of the floor pan to prevent the bolts from pulling through.

2 rolls of duct tape should do the trick

This should help lots - a good hijack!
The rear belts were standard in 1972 and were bolted in the above location. Belts in the center, retractors on the side. Earlier models would have blts and not retractors on the side.

Don - could you happen to post a picture similar to the one Robert posted above? Maybe we can figure out where to bolt yours...

Big washers will make for some fine reinforcement.

The place I'm getting my rear belts from supplies two 2" thick washers per belt.

Rob And Robert....

As you can see I will not have a problem putting the belts just like the factory.

Hope this helps.....

As you can see, the cars are built quite the same. Except this is wider than a Cutlass.

Thanks for the imput!

Talking One Shining Light for Donnie!

Notice the courtesy lamp bulb lit in the lower right corner!

You're supposed to remove them so they don't get smashed!

Thanks for the help....

See the post to Rob with my rear seat area. Won't be a problem to put them where the factory WOULD HAVE PUT THEM had it been an option in '65!

Thanks again....

Maybe this will end this thread unless "sicky olds" from San Antone decides to add some more good ideas!

Yep, you know what to do and where to drill! First envision your seat in place to verify the belts will be long enough. In fact i would prolly dril some tiny holes and secure the belts in with small screws, then put the seat bottom in and see how it looks.
If bad, then relocate and try again. The small holes are easily sealed.
If good, then drill the big holes and install. I would smear a sealant all over the bolt and washers on the outside to prevent air, exhaust, or water from getting in the car. The factory did this but more int he inside...

BTW, is that black factory paint? Very nice. Interesting how the back seat panel is solid metal and not swiss cheese style like mine.

The black is Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator. The factory color was like a dark red primer. There was a little surface rust on the panel and the floor. Nothing to worry about, but as long as the seat was out I painted it. Stuff is supposed to prevent rust from going any further. We'll see.

I will certainly measure. I'm not using retractor's in the rear, and will use longer than usual belt lengths. Never know who will get in the car!

If you look to the right in the pix I posted you can see some of the red paint the factory put on the inside of the body. Even the doors are red under the panels!

Cheers,
