Labor Day Weekend

Hope you all are having a good labor day weekend. I have attended one smaller show Friday night and am passsing on a much larger one today and opt to just go for a drive somewhere and enjoy the ride. More n more taking a half day to wonder around looking at other cars seems much, especially when they start at 8 am on Sunday, heck I am just up by this time or later on weekends.

Anyone else feel this way, enjoy the drive whether to somewhere specific or destination decided well after behind the wheel?

Friday enroute to a show, was on the hwy at a nice 55 mph slow, was approaching an intersection where the perpendicular road has a stop. A fore thought hit my mind, guardian angel perhaps, to watch out. And the old lady and her daughter started creeping out from a stop. I hit the brakes, a bit hard as they locked. Lucky for me they stopped creeping probably at the sight of the car hunched forward and smoking tires as it started to drift.. If they would of kepting going through creeping .... If they stomped on it they may of made it with me slowing through screeching tires.
As they stopped I released brakes already with steering countered, and recovered, and gave a sufficent glade and F bomb as I continued on.

A good reminder for me as a non ABS is not my daily driver. Glad I took the time in the restore to replace front calipers and pads and rear brake cylinders!

Where you all going this weekend on runs? Pleasure drives or car show?

Raining here in NY. If it stops going to fix the 455. I need to make a 2 hour parts run west but I'm waiting to hear back from seller. Definitely no car shows today.

I went to a cars and coffee show, no rules bring what you have type of show. Man what a variety of quality rides. Just down from my spot was a beautiful Morgan, one of 11 of it's type imported to the US, very unique BMW v8 powered car. Next to it was a one of 8 imported Jag. According to the Morgan owner the jag was the most expensive car at this show. There were a few muscle cars and a gaggle of Porches a few 50 era cars one Burgardi (sp?) and a few hot rods. Very different gathering of rides than I'm use to. You can tell the Concours is coming to town...... Tedd

It's too hot to do any pleasure cruise here. Gotta wait until November to roll the convertible out.

I went to a car show yesterday at the Lancaster Airport that is done in conjunction with the Commerative Air Force. This is one of my favorite shows and my third time there. They changed the judging this year and had not classes. You just voted on you favorite 15 cars. The awards started in the top 40 and then progressed to the top 10. I was a little surprised to place in the top 10. The old gal ran great going out and most of the way back. I was on I-20 with the top down and started noticing her losing power and missing. Just as I was making the turn onto I-635 she quit. I coasted over to the shoulder and she would turn over but not hit a lick. I called my wife and then called the wrecker company I use. It took them about 45 minutes to get there and it was hot has heck and the sun beating down. I got my folding chair out and sat down in the big ditch. I had one of these clamp on umbrellas and shaded my head. I even had a little portable fan. I am sure people passed by wondering what is that old fool doing. No way I was going to sit in the car in case some idiot hit it. While I was sitting there I was asking myself "am I having fun right now". I love the old gal but it does seem like it takes a lot to keep her going. As I tell people, "she may look brand new but she is still 63 years old underneath". She is sitting out in the driveway with the cover on her. I will get it her later today. If it is the Pertronix Ignition or the electric fuel pump I and going to be eating lots of crow.

I drove 480 miles today to Mackinaw City, Michigan. Took a Bridge cruise this evening. Tomorrow morning we're going to walk the Mackinac Bridge. This is the second time I've did this. I'm 67 and still feel great.

My bud w an AMX wanted me to go to musclepalooza at Lebanon valley speedway today, he's left at 6 am for the 2.5 hr drive, I haven't changed out my rad yet so my car gets warmer than I want at highway speeds but is ok at slower speeds. I decided to stay home and just go for a cruise instead! Maybe Spring musclepalooza !

After I went back and installed points in my 54 to replace the Pertronix that crapped out and left me on the side of the road Saturday afternoon, I had a nice lunch of crow pie. I am starting a thread on this experience.
