Just Listed 1972 W30 Convertible for sale on Bring a Trailer
Hi have just listed my car on Bring a Trailer if anyone knows of someone looking for one . numbers Match , Restored , Tons of Options Rare Radiant Green Color. Thx
Two things: I will assume that the VVS paperwork supersedes the need to supply the VIN to confirm it as an X-code. And the stuff about no title is nonsense -- in Canada the title is incorporated into the registration. I believe this is the case in all provinces (although I could be wrong).
Because it wasn't. As we've discussed in the past, 1972 was an unusual year for the A-body cars. The Colonnade cars that came out in 1973 were originally SUPPOSED to be released as 1972 models, but a UAW strike delayed the factory equipment needed to fab the bodies. As a result, the 1971 models were re-released as 1972s at the last minute with as few changes as possible. This is why the 71 and 72 car only differ in small, easily changed areas like grilles and tail light lenses. Also, due to the last minute panic, some options didn't get offered for 72. In the case of A/C on W30 cars, I suspect the issue was EPA certification of that configuration - especially when having to add band-aids like idle-up solenoids. Given the small number of W30s planned for 72, it was not seen as an issue. Frankly, if you were buying a high performance car like a W30, A/C was typically left off to save weight. Other things that didn't make the cut for the 1972 model year were the W35 wing or red inner fender wells (except for a tiny handful of early 1972 cars). Since Olds hadn't originally planned to sell this body style for 1972, those parts were not stockpiled for the model year production. There were also no six cylinder engines offered for the 1972 model year in any Oldsmobile - the first time that had happened since 1963.
Joe, I appreciate that information as it is something I was never really aware of but thinking about it both year models have so much in common as you have said it just never occurred to me to ask or investigate why.
