Smile Junkyard Score: '75 Hurst/Olds W-30 !!!

I was at a junkyard last week and saw a black 1975 Cutlass Supreme with T-tops sitting near the entrance to the yard. Upon closer inspection, I found that the quarter window facing away from the road was plugged! It also had the H/O interior quarter window plug and the H/O hood! Yep, it was a 1975 Hurst/Olds. I checked the vin and it had the "T" for the 455. The car's body is very solid, but some previous owner gutted it, so it it just an empty shell. What a shame. Good fenders, quarters, hood, trunk, glass, floors, console, white interior door panels, and 1 good door, 1 repairable door. This car also has power windows!
I went back yesterday, bought the car for scrap price, and towed it home!

I'm having a problem posting pictures on this site, so I will post them as soon as the problem is corrected by the site administrator.

What a great save. Definitely look forward to the pics of your new ride.

That's why I'm afraid to go to the wrecking yard. I'll find something else to bring home with me and then have to explain it to the boss.

Or worse, they tell you they will sell parts but not whole cars.

Saw the pics on the www.73-77olds.com site. Definite work but not impossible. Nice find.

Yeah, I tried to post pics before the weekend, but it was saying that I had a "security token missing"???? The pics are posted on the 73-77 Olds website. The car is mostly a bare shell...front seats gone, 455 gone, bumpers gone, Hurst/Hatch glass gone, Hurst Dual-Gate gone, etc. Due to the lack of value of restored '75 H/Os, even the W-30s, this probably would not make a good resto candidate, unless you had a whole other complete, rusted H/O as a donor. Also, there's no title. The salvage yard was going to see if it was sent in yet, or if they still had it. I would consider selling it whole, but most likely I'll have to part it out. Not enouth parts left to make a good run at it.

Nice find, Looks like you have quite a variety of cars yourself.. You and I are both Mopar and Olds guys. I've got a 71 Cutlass convertible, 70 Vista Cruiser and a 65 Coronet 500. I don't think you can buy a car body from a salvage yard here in Michigan- something about their license. Where are you located?

Northeast Ohio...Salem. I'm on Moparts quite a bit, too. Some scrap yards don't mind selling you a car, but may not have a title, just a bill of sale. They turn in their titles to the county, who then turns them in to the state, if I understand correctly. This scrap yard was going to look to see if they still had this one, since it came in recently. If so, I should get the title to it, but I'm not holding my breath.
