Junkyard finds (62 starfire and others)
Was out at a wrecking yard last weekend and came across some interesting vehicles. These are located near middletown, OH at a place called Stark's Wrecking:
(937) 866-5032
7081 Germantown Pike
Miamisburg, OH 45342
I probably won't be back there any time soon, as it's a good 40m or more from my place, and they didn't have anything I needed, but I thought I would at least put the information here somewhere in case anyone else needs to follow up on it. Bizarre place with cows wandering through random piles of cars. There's probably 1000 cars back there, and none of them are newer than 1972. Most all are covered in weeds & trees to some extent, but it's very scattered and unusual. Most of the cars are ROUGH, and that's putting it nicely, but there's definitely some useable stuff there, or it wouldn't be back there I suppose. I was looking for a 65/66 Starfire a buddy thought he spotted, but alas, no such luck. Only the 62 and a few others. I snapped pics of some of the interesting things back there and some of the olds's
Having issues loading the pics right now. grrr! I'll get them up later tonight or Sunday. I don't want to erase what I wrote already and start over...
Gives me some kind of "expired token error" when I try and upload them. Any clues? Maybe the files are too large and it's timing out?

and a REALLY bizarre one here. This vehicle was apparently used at LCI. The local state pen. Wish I could have seen this one back when it was new(er)
I was able to get a shot at the trim tag on the last sedan for those detectives here that like figuring out such things.

No problem. I was a little worried that since some of them were so bad that people wouldn't want to see anything like that. Old memories, PTRD (Post Traumatic Restoration Disorder ) and such.
I personally have always found salvage yards fascinating places, no matter what's there. There were at least a DOZEN cars in this yard I couldn't ID at all. CRAZY things have been stashed there over the decades. Old milk trucks, tiny little cars I've never seen, strange purpose built cars that I have no clue what the purpose would have been, etc. I could easily have spent a few more hours poking round there, but they were already kind enough to let me keep wandering the yard 90m after they had closed down.

Yup. Right on the way on Rt.4 Stop in there some weekend and just poke around. It's the most bizarre salvage yard I've ever been through. Take a camera.

Aren't there a ton of old school buses on the hillside or something? I remember going by there somewhere and a bunch of junked buses were sitting on the side of a hill. I think it is at the same salvage yard. I will have to check that out. Too bad a lot of the cars are junky. But at least there are some good parts left.

I think that is the place. I can't remember for sure. I was actually more concerned with "hey, I found the place" and
"how many potholes does this gravel lane have that will eat my car" and
"how far back this lane is this place?" (WAY far back there...)
than if there were school busses on the hill. Sounds right though now that you mentioned it.

When I drive by again I will see if it is the same area that I am thinking of. I do remember the small sign that points down the road. I will google earth it and check it out so I don't get too lost when I actually go there. Weather has been kind of bad lately so I will have to wait until there is more sun around.

wear boots or good shoes that won't waterlog. It's a bit swampy there, and with all the rain we've had since I was there, I'm sure it's gotten a bit worse.
Steer clear or the cowpies, and try not to startle the cows & calfs. A buddy told me he's been chased around the yard a bit by the mommy cows being protective of the little ones.
Make sure to head all the way to the "back 40" There's several fenced in areas back there, and some are not noticeable easily from the ground unless you know which direction to head. I spent all my time in the main area right through the gate, and back to the right (west) from that area. I never got down into the front area with the busses and other stuff. There's a lot there for sure.
