Jump starters, do you own one ?

Last night I get a cell phone call from my friend and neighbor " hey I'm down at the corner CVS and my car wont start I think the battery took a crap, can you come and give me a jump ?" sure I said and went to the rescue, the rescue was easy and quick because about 3 years ago I purchased a portable jump starter. Amazon had a black Friday special and the price was right so I ordered one. I was skeptical that something so small and easy could be effective. When it arrived I immediately put it to the ultimate test, I still had my 1990 Cherokee trail rig I used for my 4x4 trail adventures, it usually sat behind my RV gate for about 5 months a year until cool 4x4 weather rolled around , the battery would always be dead and require a jump start off my other vehicles, usually requiring about a 20 min. run to get enough juice in the batt or a overnight charge on my charger well I hooked it up and to my ultimate surprise and delight that old girl cranked like it had two battery's WOW something that worked as advertised !!! I have used about 10 times , son-in-laws truck, neighbors car and even a few assist to strangers I saw with their hoods up in the mall parking lot !! mine is a 800 amp model (most of them now are 1000 to 1500 amp ) they claim it will jump 20 veh. per charge, It has sat in my Jeep for about 7 months and still registered a 93% charge after sitting idle for that long. I think I paid $69.00 for it , it may be the best $69.00 I ever spent. I keep it in my Grand Cherokee and take it with me when I drive the 56.
I'm thinking of purchasing another one to keep in the wife's car so there is one in each vehicle. Do you have one ? if you do have you had a good experience ? if you don't have one it's a pretty sound investment,

I have this one. My first one lasted about 10 years. This is my second. I use it a lot. Probably a couple times a month in the summer. Three jet skis, a boat, side by side, five cars, 12V water pump with a cigarette lighter connection, air mattress inflator..... probably a few more things I use it for that I'm missing

I have the bigger NOCO & a couple of smaller different ones in the family cars. Work really well. Handy to have around + the occasional rescue of someone in distress. Last one was at the drive in movie, folks killed battery, turned out they knew who I was, huh, never know.

I had a couple of older packs that looked like this, 2 out of 3 failed after a few years.

I have a couple in the shop and usually carry one in the primary daily... I just recently purchased three of the ones shown in the photo below at Sam's Club for $59 each... One for my son and son-in-law as well as myself... In addition to boost, it also has an air compressor and USB ports...

I had one of the larger not so portable ones that my wife bought me for Christmas one year from Costco Jump starter, flash light and compressor she thought it was such a good deal she bought one for each of our daughters that were up in school in Flagstaff, in two out of the three the compressors failed, and in mine the battery eventually refused to take a charge, I don't know what batteries they used or what brand it was but they sucked !! I know the technology has improved by leaps and bounds since then.

I also have one and it has come in handy many times. It has a flashlight and a usb port and a port that fits my phone also. The bad news is I can't find the charger cord so if it doesn't show up soon it's a paper weight....Tedd

look up the input voltage and milli amps. You can find a variable voltage charger for $10 on Amazon.

I am old. This technology is just wow. Beats the hell out of asking someone in a parking lot to jump you.

I have one of the Stanley ones mentioned above. It's useful for sure. I do have all my cars sitting on tenders though so usually a non-issue.

I have had 3 of this model craftsman jump box. I bought the first one many years ago, it’s pretty heavy but worked well. After lots of use, it got to the point where it seemed the battery was getting weak. I bought 2 when the Sears store closed. I have one in my garage, the other is in my sons room. He uses it to power the heat lamps on the aquarium for his bearded dragon when we loose power.

Since I’m cheap, I took part the jump box with the weak battery and removed the circuit board that controls the battery charge. I have to do some rewiring to eliminate the USB charger, air compressor controller, and inverter functions. I put everything in a old pencil box, mounted it on the garage wall and now have a battery tender. Works great!
