Interior plastic paint

What are the options for painting interior plastic parts such as seat backs and center consoles in black color. Anyone have a preference to the best product to use ?? Thanks. Greg

If it is hard plastic I would recommend Krylon for plastic. Hobby Lobby carries it.

I used Krylon Semi Flat black on my console in my Olds, looks great. I also used it on my dash in my 65 Vette at the suggestion of John at Redline Gauge in Humbolt, Tn. who rebuilt the gauges 13 years ago.
I dont think its as shiney as semi gloss and its more shiny than satin. Its really nice.

As with any paint job, preparation is the key. Clean it with a good degreaser like Simple Green and then wipe it down lightly with lacquer thinner.

I use SEM products landau black it is a vinyl dye not a paint product. The vinyl dye bonds with plastic and I have never had any problems with it flaking off even with minimal prep.

Definitely use SEM products, and as noted above, prep is key. First you need to thoroughly clean the plastic, using a stiff brush to scour the grain of the plastic. They, use the adhesion promoter. This product etches the plastic to ensure a good bond. Then spray the color. SEM has detailed application instructions.

Technically...Not a dye. SEM changed their label several years ago because their products are actually PAINTS for plastics.

Adhesion promoters soften the surface of the plastic to PROMOTE adhesion of the top coat paint.

Urethane basecaot paint with special UV catalysts and Flex additives work great and can be blended to the color of your choosing. You need an HVLP gun and compressor. There are acceptable inexpensive HVLP guns if you don't have one.

p.s. FWIW - I don't object to bringing up older threads.

Year One has a few interior colors that are OK. You may want to test them out. Those were the best I could find off the shelf when I started looking back in .... 2012?
I ended up getting a custom color mixed in PPG DBC at the local jobber shop. The flex additive is only needed on things like seat covers that move a bunch. Normal plastic and vinyl (dash pad, console, seat backs, etc etc) can use straight paint.

I used the SEM black on my console lid but it is too flat of a finish compared to the rest of the console. I have some eastwood underhood black I am thinking about trying that. My buddy just did his 69 blue hard plastics with some ppg in a spray can that he had mixed to match, it looks fantastic!
