I told her that the budgets are probably close to the same, but at least with cars I have something to show for it
Also, I don't miss going to work feeling like **** everyday either. I havent quit drinking by any means, but I do it responsibly now because I have something constructive to occupy my time. Also, I don't go to bars anymore cuz i can sip a beer while i'm turning a wrench. It's more satisfying that way.

Believe me, there's worse things that can happen. Here's a pic of a guy driving a $75K ZO6 Vette fresh from dealer delivery, under a truck. Didn't even put a mile on it. Wonder what his insurance had to say about this one.

Have you thought about taking the money and the car and then parting it out yourself? Looks like there are still some good parts left... Make a little more money and help others with their projects. These are not common cars.
If you cannot afford the room for the whole thing, maybe take all the good stuff off, stow it away to sell to those in need, then having one of those "cash for junk cars" places come and haul it off the remains for you.
Just a final thought...
Sorry this happened to you - it sux for sure.

Thought you might be interested in this 75 Omega. Looks like it's a 10 hr drive away from you though. I didn't analyze this ad at all... was just reading your thread and by chance ran into this ad. So thought I should send you a link.
Whatever you do good luck!

I would stand and tell the insurance company you want more than what the book tells them to pay. Your car was no scrapper!
The cash offer they made was low. You should be furnished with funds to buy an oldsmobile equally nice.

The states I work in MD, DC and VA do have laws that tell an insurance when they have to total a car (80% of cars actual cash value is typical) and requires that any car be titled as a salvage car. 2nd part is to prevent a person from purchasing the car back, fixing it cheap and reselling as an undamaged car. Flood damage is one of the bigger problems because it is the easiet car to look good and the hardest to find long term problems.
