Insurance claim

I'm curious if the collector car insurers are quick to raise rates after a claim has been filed. Please chime in if you have any info to share. Thanks

I have Grundy and have had no issues with the claim I had last year (about $7,000) but it wasn't my fault and the other party admitted fault so in reality it fell on his insurance though I ran it through Grundy just in-case a problem did occur. No increase in rates ...Tedd.

A few years ago I filed a claim with Hagerty on a '58 Dodge I had at that time. I actually had the car out of the garage when a wind storm blew through and dropped a pretty large branch across the hood and fenders. Made several creases and dents in the front clip. I submitted the claim to Hagerty, they wanted the name of the body shop I used, than approved the claim and mailed the check. It's been years and I've only gotten a small incremental year-over-year increase.

most specialty carriers won't raise your rates for one claim...

In my experience, don't make a claim unless it's at least twice your deductible - just too much agrevation.
Get a couple estimates first, to see where you're at.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm in the process of getting estimates, so we'll see how this pans out over the next few weeks. I've always heard they won't raise rates for a claim like this, but wanted ask first hand experience.

Rickman48 - I have a $0 deductible...

I'll second what Richman said. One of my modern cars broke down and I used the towing service included in my coverage. The tow was viewed as a claim and two claims result in a premium increase. Needless to say, I dropped towing from my modern car policies as I'd rather pay out-of-pocket for that once-every-10-years service and not deal with a the claim tally.
