I use USAA. They are ok. I've heard Haggerty is another good company for classic car insurance.

DOUBLED?? Sounds like you DO need to go elsewhere!

I also use Haggerty.
Full coverage on my two Olds' with lowest deductibles with 30K value is around 300 a year. Quite unrestricted, too. Just have a garage and do not use as a daily driver...

Now there is a qualified opinion. All that really matters is what happens when you have a claim. All the accolades without having a claim is rather meaningless as far as I'm concerned. I have American Collectors (have for 23 years) and I'm satisfied, but without ever having a claim.............
Hey, come to think of it, they owe me a car by now

USAA is now open to all Military Veterans. It was locked at active and post 1996' discharge. It is now open to all Vets. If you do not have a garage to put your classic in this is a good way to go.

Do you have insurance through USAA? If so, do you mind telling what your policy premium is? And any policy stipulations?

I use Haggerty because of word of mouth reputation here on the internet. I've read a couple other threads and everyone who replied about Haggerty (which was close to the majority) says Haggerty is excellent when it comes to handling claims.
One thing I liked while signing up for Haggerty...they didn't even ask the mileage of the car, made me feel like there are no restrictions about mileage.Asked the sales rep about mileage restrictions...she replied,"yes there is,but we encourage you to enjoy your car and joy ride" and then never asked the mileage. When it comes to mileage I think they have the don't ask, don't tell policy.

Hagerty, Hagerty, Hagerty!!!

I may be a bit bias, but here is my experience.

I have had collector car insurance for about 7yrs know. From day 1 it has been with Hagerty. It is normal "collector car" insurance....... you have to have a garage to store it in, you have to have another vehicle that is your daily driver, you are "supposed" to be limited to miles.
I have had 6 cars insured with Hagerty now, and every time I call up, they want to know where it will be stored at, roughly how many miles i will drive it, and what I want it insured for (agreed value policy). Then I send them some pics and its a done deal. They never ask me mileage, and they never hassle me.
I love the "zero" deductible, the roadside assistance, and yes, the premiums. I can't belive how little I pay with them, for full coverage. better yet, my wife can't believe how little we pay.
And yes, I have had a claim. I bought one of my cars in Florida about 4 yrs ago. I called a shipper to get it to my home state, and by the time it got to my house, the car had rock chips all over the paint and chrome. I called Hagerty, the sent out a claims rep... he said get him an estimate to paint it and find the chrome, and he cut me a check. Done and over with.
I also have used the roadside assistance. Called them up, they sent out a flatbed (they always send only a flatbed for collectors), and the guy towed my car home for free. The even called me back on my cell phone after I placed the original call to make sure the wrecker showed up!
You won't get any better service, price or policy. Don't bother looking
I work in the insurance industry myself, and know that service and low rates are one thing, but what really makes a company is the service you get when you file a claim. Hagerty makes it happen, and they take care of you from day 1!

I just signed up for agreed value insurance with Hagerty. Got my policy in the mail on Thursday. I had to fax them a copy of our insurance policy "declaration" page showing coverage on our other vehicles, with our regular insurance company, and it had to have my name on it, and I e-mailed a picture of the Cutlass to them. That was all they wanted from me. They were really nice on the phone.

I see a lot of responses, but no premium details. Well, here's my coverage with State Farm:
  • Agreed replacement value of $24,900 (i have an appraisal that was required by this insurer)
  • Comprehensive Coverage - $100 deductible
  • Collision Coverage - $250 deductible
  • Liab of 100,000/300,000
  • Property damage of 100,000
  • Medical of 5,000 per person
  • Uninsured and Underinsured Coverage
  • no limitation on the number of miles driven each year
  • first right of refusal to buy back the car in the event of it being totalled.
Annual premium of $168/year.

I've been with State Farm since I turned 16 years of age (I'm nearly 43 now). I have yet to experience a claim on my Olds, and should that happen I hope they remain as fair and dependable as they have on my other vehicles. Keep in mind this is based on my personal experience.

I have been thinking about going with Hagerty, or one of the collector car
Co. but I wonder whats going to happen after the claims all come in from
that storm at the Russow and Steele auction....?????

Red,

I work in the insurance industry and hear things like this all the time. I do property insurance so I am usually dealing with a catastrophe like Katrina or Wilma, or something major like that. I hear the same thing all the time.

In the case of the Russo & Steele auction, there were only about 200 vehicles that were in the affected area. Out of those 200, not all received extensive damage. And even if all of them did receive extensive damage, all are not insured by the same company, thus, spreading the "cost" to other carriers so one single carrier would not have to take the brunt of the claims.

Since I work in the insurance business, I can assure you of one thing....... There is not one single storm or event that can harm a major insurance company. There are sides of insurance that many people dont know of, or understand. Lets just say that almost every major insurance company has a very solid foundation, and makes sure that they are not exposed to such a great risk.

This is not to say that small companies will not fold. However, Hagerty has become a BIG company and no longer has this concern.

I was with American Collectors (through USAA) for about 8 years without a problem, but I never made a claim either. I switched over to Grundy last year due to the fact that there was no mileage limitations and it cost less than my A.C. policy. I still use USAA for my regular cars because they are less expensive than the others and provide great service.
