The place I bought my '73 Delta 88 convertible from earlier this year always has some interesting cars on the lot. Last Sunday I was driving by and noticed a few cars that I thought I'd stop and take some photos of, including one Oldsmobile.
There is no security here. It's just that kind of friendly, quiet neighborhood. But anyone can walk right onto the lot right up to these cars and look at them all day long with no one coming to bother you (when the place is closed, as it was when I was there).
There are no prices on any of these The owner buys them, fixes them up, and sells them, or fixes up cars that are brought to him.
First up, the Oldsmobile. A '67 Cutlass Supreme convertible.
Right next to the Olds is a very nice 1938 Buick.
Next to the Buick is this Chevy Camaro. I don't know the year (they all start looking the same to me!). No sticker in the window.
Then there is this very nice '70 Chevy Impala Custom.
Finally there were these two beasts off by themselves. A '71 Eldorado and a '67 Lincoln Continental. Both convertibles. The Caddy has been there for a while. Not sure of the story on it. One tire is flat, and it has been that way for a while.
The Lincoln came from a Mecum auction.
Here's the name of the place if anyone wants to call and buy a car!
I used to stop at a lot like that in Buellton, Ca. just off the 101 when I would stop to buy gas on my way through. Same "free-range" policy and I often stopped by in the wee hours when there was absolutely nobody around but the yard was fully lit. Their specialty was '62-5 Chevys with 409s, but they would also have a few tri-fives and some oddities like Studebakers or Nashes. Can't recall seeing an Olds though, but I do wish I'd taken a few pictures just the same.
Actually, it's not even a Cutlass. I do have the VIN. I didn't post the window sticker with it. Here it is. I didn't think to check it before now.
According to the '67 chassis service manual, that VIN, 336677M105744, translates to a Deluxe F-85 convertible with V-8 engine. To be a Cutlass, the VIN would need to start with 338. Someone really dressed it up as something it's not.
I drove by there this morning. The not-a-Cutlass, Camaro, and Eldorado are still there. The Buick Century, Chevy Impala, and Lincoln Continental are gone.
