Idiot Gauge......not Olds

I have just discovered that the Oil pressure gauge on my 4.6 Ford F-150 is a fake. It is not a gauge at all but is controlled by a on off switch like an idiot light.
What is up with that crap?

Is it a switch or electric sender?, if the switch looks like a big oil pressure switch it could be a sender.
What happens when you start the engine?, does the gauge go to a certain reading and never move?.
I wouldn't have thought the makers would go to this trouble for a useless piece of kit.

Roger.
