I will be absent for a while

Hey all,

I am moving to Dallas and will have spotty access to the internet for a while as my laptop is not too fast and I am not too experienced at using wifi hotspots. Anyway, I have notified the mods about it and Omicron will be sitting in as well. If you need any help please do not hesitate to contact a mod. For those of you all living down in the Dallas/Fort Worth area I hope to see you all in person this summer at some point in time. I hope to make it around to some local car shows. Thanks for you attention and cooperation.

Welcome to Big D, Oldsguy! Also welcome to the heat, and not the team from Miami; the 102 degrees we are supposed to have today! What part of the Metroplex are you moving to? Local Club of the OCA is the North Texas Olds Club, and we would welcome you, when you get settled. We will be having a Zone Show in early October just north of Ft Worth, with racing on Friday night, and judging on Saturday AM; awards Sunday AM. Will be across from Texas Motor Speedway, one of the many things you will need to see down here. I'm at 214-327-6699 in East Dallas out by White Rock Lake if we can be of any assistance.

Current temp is 97 "and breezy" according to the NOAA at 4pm. Low tonite will be 78, good evening for a walk. Bring shorts and T-shirts for those days you will be working on your Olds. Welcome to town.

Absent? You'd better have a note from your mother mister! Good luck on the move.

Thanks guys, I am moving from Kansas City. I know the temperature is HOT but there is little to no snow and much less bad weather in the winter. Aron, I will have to check out the North Texas Olds Club.

Under typical circumstances the phrase "I will be absent for a while" means that your mail gets redirected to Huntsville.....Glad to hear that it's Dallas instead. The food will be better at minimum. Do try to get acquainted with the friendly folks in the NTOC, the Zone Show is excellent (when not stormy) cars are great and people are better. Although I live a ways west of 360, I'll be there with my crew with our most recent money pit. Welcome to slightly less tornado prone area, mostly good people, great live music, outstanding Tex Mex/BBQ, great beer, independent minds!!

Doesn't surprise me, it's a great place...I think he'll like it. Don't think you'll need bug spray, never had any serious bug problem in 50 years (except down in Houston...the cockroach capital)

I am talking mosquitos - the ones that eat you alive by time the temperature drops off to a comfortable 90*...

Then there are the termites and ants.......

Mosquitos don't really bother me much, plus they have them in Kansas too, as well as ants. You'll be fine Oldsguy.

Welcome back, Dan! Up north by the High5, huh? Beware of the way folks drive in Big D, will not be anywhere near what you are used to, seriously. It seems to be either too fast, or stopped (as in when someone hits another car). Oh, folks here do a lot of talking on cell phones, and TEXTING () while driving their indestructable automobiles at 70 MPH (or better) on LBJ and Central. Safest place I've found lately is the new Sam Rayburn (121) even further north from your location. Anyway, with all of the previous negative print on my part, to Big D; think in the long run, you will enjoy it. Juju and I out by White Rock Lake; Rob/Lady and Gearheads 78 both out toward Wylie, I think. Others scattered.

Welcome to Texas and the Dallas area. Due to a lot of family commitments, I do a terrible job of connecting with people. Hopefully that will improve. As I have said before, you don't have to shovel and plow heat like you do snow. There are a lot of good places to live in the area. Good to have you.

Rob, that is the truth. But, you have to come in the Cutlass. SInce we both have identical cars other than color, we should get together. I probably need to come see yours and it would get me inspired. We have been corresponding on here for several years. It is my fault. Richard is even closer than you and I have not hooked up with him. Again, my fault.

Well guys. I am getting settled in, kind of anyway. I really want to do something with the Cutlass this weekend, maybe Friday night or Saturday night. The problem is that it is parked in a more secure location where my folks live (gated community) than where I am (temporary apartment and not gated or secure). I guess it is just a minor inconvenience that adds half an hour on each end of any trip to pick it up and then park it back. Anyway, if any of you guys in the Dallas area are free just give me a call. 816-812-1073 I answer my cell most of the time if I can hear it ring.

Hamm 36: We are 5 minutes from the Lake, also. Close to Casa Linda @ Bucker and Garland Rd. Too close to Gaston Middle School, about 3 blocks. We can try and hook up AFTER we get back from the Nationals. We leave Saturday, back the 7th of August.

Well Alan, some of us are farther "down there" and alone in the Olds world. But I am only about 7 hours away from the Big D. Used to drive to Grapevine a bunch for my son to play water polo. Nice area. Dan, good luck up there, and pay no mind to the skeeter warnings, on the bayou they are so big the FAA makes them get tail numbers.

That sounds familiar...this past summer one of the fuel trucks at the intl airport filled one of those skeeter up with 200 gallons of jet fuel before they realized what it was

It is a great place. My wife and I spend last Friday and Granbury Gardens which is one of our favorite B&B's. Stan and Kay are really nice folks. I hated to see Granbury Live close. That was a neat place. We went there probably 3-4 times. It is a great getaway for us.

Aron
Isn't that the way everyone drives? No wonder people look at me weird when I pass them on I-680 in the East Bay @70 going uphill!

Now Aron, You know the rules of the road on 75, 635, 121, 35 and The DNT; Merge on to on-ramp, WOT until you reach merging speed (approx 60 MPH), merge into lane of your choice, increase speed until you get in front of everyone, and then settle in ~75 MPH. If you approach the toll plaza, slow to 65 so the Toll Tag reads, then increase back to where you were. Simple...

I think that you will like Dallas Oldsguy. I am a native Texan, lived in Dallas for 15 years. (Plano technically, at the intersection of Plano, Wylie and Garland near the "Bushy" Turnpike) and moved to the SF Bay Area only a couple of years ago (The economy don't-cha-know. Sometimes have to move where the money is.) If you feel like a road trip, take a run to Ft. Worth for the day or run down to San Antonio or Austin for the weekend.

There are so many things I miss about Texas; the Mexican food here is not a good ole plate of greasy Tex-Mex, the BBQ here is TERRIBLE, the cost of living here is insane, and the people here in the Bay Area are nice for the most part, but not as friendly as Texans.

But one thing I will not miss...the weather here in the SF Bay is a lot nicer! I will not miss the ice storms...note I said ICE...that will be a hoot in the Cutlass!

By the way: If you hear a tornado siren on the first Wednesday of the month at noon, don't worry that is normal. If you hear one any other time, and it is raining, hailing, thunder and lightning, say on a random spring Monday, I would suggest an interior space away from the windows.

I actually miss the wind, rain, thunder and lightning! If there is a wind >20 MPH here it is on the 11:00 news. In almost 3-years I have seen lightning 2 times and NEVER heard thunder.

Enjoy the Big D!
