And I thought I was an optimist!

He says it got hot enough to melt the transmission... other than the cast iron parts do you think anything else could be useable?

$601? Are people insane? That shouldn't go for more than scrap value.

Unless they want to use the title to "rebuild" it...

1969 Olds 442, VIN 344879M116624, 130,000 miles.
Keep an eye out for it as a "low mileage original" ar Barrett-Jackson.

The hint to me, he's trying to sell the vin, clear title, and the parts to clone a 442.

And I quote..." If you win the auction you can pick and choose what you wish to keep. If you choose to want just the title I’ll have to cut the car into small enough pieces to get in the scrap yard. If you want the block I’ll crate it and ship it. If you want the whole car I’ll load it on my trailer and bring it to you for a charge of course. Perfect parts for a Cutlass clone project."

I've had hard burned cars like that before where even the cam shaft bearings melted. I'd be surprised if the vin plate on the dash survived the heat.

I can't imagine what
could be left that would be
worth much. Intake and exhaust
manifolds? The crank and block?
A terrible demise for a 442, dang.
Maybe the guys bidding are hoping
for a rebulidable posi rear?

Doesn't matter.

There are helpful people out there, who live to serve those unfortunate souls who have lost or damaged their body and VIN tags. They will gladly (for a price) provide excellent reproductions so that that 442 can be restored perfectly.

Or so a Cutlass clone can be turned into a "real" 442, with "matching numbers" and a corresponding price tag.

As I posted above, 442 buyers - Watch for that VIN in a year or so.

Hello! The paper. That's what they're bidding on.

What? Why that's illegal.
No scruples when it comes
to money I guess...

No, it's not. They're buying the whole car.

Of course, as it says in the post, if the buyer would prefer, the seller wil cut off the parts he wants and scrap the rest himself...

Interesting enough it's not illegal for the seller to do this.

Hey! It will have the desired rist/patina for a rat rod. Just that all the metals structural integrity, including block has been compromised by the heat of the fire.
