i need help school report
hello my name is cole im 15 years old. I just picked up a 1967 town sedan any way I love the car. i went to school today and they told my class that we had to write a 2000 word essay. I thought it be cool to do it on oldsmobile history and facts and stuff like that so if you cound help me out just a little bit that wound be cool. thank you guys for your time.
I'm not sure if you can find this book in your
local library or not, but it is the best info on Oldsmobile history:
Setting The Pace Oldsmobile's First 100 Years
By Helen Jones Earley and James R Walkinshaw.
Library of congress catalog card number 96-69845.
It has the complete history of Olds and a great read.
And a lot of photos as well. Good luck and don't forget
to come back and post your grade.

Hi Cole, and welcome. I like your topic idea, but it might be a bit broad for a 200-word essay, and you might want to save it for a research paper or project, which you'll probably be required to do later. For your essay, consider writing from what you know: Where you got the car, how you feel about it, and what plans you have for it in the future. (You may have guessed I'm an English teacher)
Good luck and have fun with it (the essay AND the car!)

LOL Shelley - it's supposed to be a 2000 word essay. But you're right - trying to capture the Olds history in just 2000 words is ambitious.
Welcome, and nice choice for a car. I have one for parts if need be.
As for a report, the 100 years book is a good start, but I found hidden in MSU's library a book called AUTO PIONEERING - a very good read, and not so big as to be prohibitive. In this tome you can learn such facts as: Henry Ford was urged by RE Olds to get into the car making business... GM was almost formed from Oldsmobile, FORD, and __, but backers withdrew when they learned that Ford and Olds planned to retire thereafter, not run the show.... etc.
If you google that title, you might just find my paraphrasing of said book from a few years ago. A "Reader's Digest Condensed Version" of sorts.
Well, here's one you can buy- paper or electronic it appears

Depends on how many pages and the quality you want but my last one cost me $127 Hi Cole, and welcome. A 1967 Town Sedan could be a Cutlass/F85, a Delmont/Delta 88, or a Ninety Eight. Which do you have? though I'm leaning toward the Ninety Eight since I think it was the only one that actually said Town Sedan on it anywhere...
Cool car for a young buck. People here are generally very helpful. Ask away and we'll try to help.

internet nowadays...funny!
With the Setting the Pace book, the info able to be found on the R. E. Olds Transportation Museum (google it) site and the Saved62 site (http://www.freewebs.com/jeandaveyaros) you will have more than enough data to bang out 2,000 words. on Ransom.

Great suggestion! Now, just to lay out all the bibliographic info:
Title: Auto pioneering: a remarkable story of Ransom E. Olds, father of Oldsmobile and Reo
Author: Duane Yarnell
Published: 1949
Length: 212 pages
By the way, where did Cole go, anyway???

Steve, I don't want to sound like an old lady, but I think you will understand if I put it this way: Though you yourself may have defensible reasons for purchasing a term paper, encouraging that behavior in a young person is encouraging dishonorable activity, and must be avoided.
Kids need to be shown the right way, not the shortcuts.

Right?... Under the bleachers? Smoki'n in the boys room?
Ahh, found him, he was in the back seat of his Oldsmobile
with that girl, you know the one....
Yeah, bad call on my part. I should've thought about my audience. So don't go buying any research papers. I only did it one time and it's because I'm a no good lazy SOB. Take the opportunity to learn the process and write something original. It is much more satisfying that way...especially if you have the option to write something you're passionate about. In my case, I had to write about the House of the Seven Gables. I didn't wanna read the book, let alone do research on it...but I shouldn't have done what I did.

It's always an honor to have the up and coming generation interested in great old cars.
