You caught that too, huh? There's a backstory to my research. I'll share it with everyone soon 😀

I don't get it... I just don't get it...

Why would you replace the cowl tag, then change the options that are listed on said cowl tag?

What I don’t get is why you created yet another thread regarding the same topic. Now we have to play hop scotch? I’m sorry Dave but this is ridiculous.

At the VERY MINIMUM place the cowl tag in THIS THREAD so anyone reading this thread can view the cowl tag they now have to reference by playing hop scotch to a previous thread where the cowl tag is located. Argh. 😡

There’s nothing illegal with changing a cowl tag in any state except Oklahoma…

In my opinion that is terrible. It's no wonder why there are so many fakes out there.

Should merge these two threads. So hate to ask but what is the point of all this?

It's so unscrupulous people can create a car that will hopefully command more money. A scam in other words.

The body tag was for the following. To tell the Fisher Body plant what color the car was to be painted, what trim and seating it got, and any options that would require a body piercing or alteration to accommodate installation. Altering it to designate, say, factory air when not originally equipped, a color/trim change to a more "sellable" one, 442 emblem piercings on a non-442, on and on. Did I say unscrupulous?

I ended a 17-year POCI membership when that group started allowing altered body tags. Color and trim changes, add/delete options, on and on. All so certain high profile GTO guys could "legitimize" the bastard cars they'd created and sell them for inflated money.

For that reason, I would never buy any muscle-era Pontiac without Pontiac Historical Services documentation. We in Oldsworld do not have that asset and luxury. Caveat emptor.

My point is that the car doesn't match the cowl tag, and the cowl tag isn't original. So not only was the cowl tag swapped, but the car wasn't even changed to at least match the swapped cowl tag.
Oh...and here's the VIN...note that it's a U code.

One has to wonder if it's #'s matching. Guess why the hammer dropped at only 19,500.

Both the cowl tag and the VIN say that this is a 1972 Supreme Hardtop Coupe from the Arlington, TX plant. What doesn't match? Colors and interior can be changed.
