Hydramatic help in Austin TX?
Hey there! I'm looking for a mechanic in the Austin area that's familiar with hydramatics and can work some issues out on my 55 olds. I can't get the kick down adjusted to save my life. It gos from 1-2 way to fast, then 2-3 shifts late and hard. When I come to a stop it dosnt want to down shift properly and when it does its a bit hard. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Sorry I missed this post.
You are not going to change the shift points on the 1st to 2ed shift that is not a changeable shift and it is designed to shift very quickly maybe 30 feet and get that heavy car a rolling. If you don't have a 55 motor manual it is difficult to walk you through the shift points. But first make sure your car is timed correctly and the carb is properly set or it will never shift correctly. But my first advise is if you don't have a motor manual or can't find one, or a mechanic that will do it for you give me a PM and there is a chance that I can scan that section of the manual for you sometimes they copy poorly so no guarantee. Also it would help to know if you have a 2bbl or 4bbl carb....Lost in the fifties ...Tedd

Hi Ted! I have a 4 bbl I believe it's a Rochester. I also have a manual, I just don't feel confident enough to do it myself. Ill have the timing done on it and give the mechanic up the street the manual so he can have the proper reference. Thank you kindly for the response
