Hurst shifter id help

Ok are either of these shifters correct for 70-72? Is there a way to tell the year? The one that says hurst had a 7305 non console handle and the one that says competition plus had a 7169 console handle in it. Thanks for your help. Brandon

do either of the shifter bodies, like on the front, have iirc, 3138 on them? those are correct for a wide range of GM and Chrysler (and AMC?) vehicles, including the 70-72 you are asking about.
Pete Serio's Hurst shifter books, vol 1 and vol 2 are great references.

take a pic so we can see the lever receiver..is it straight or angled...

no one has decoded the numbers you show with consistancy, it contains partial date code and part number...but the camaro guys have just about got it figured out...for camaros...

those both look like the correct mechanism...but how that handle sits in there is the clue...

and they are the same 70-72 console or not...

Factory shifters did not have a threaded hole for stop adjustment and the handle receivers should be tilted as shown in this pict from Terrys website.

Brandon,
Rotate those shifters and post a picture. There should be some numbers on there. They both "look" correct to me. Maybe someone with more knowledge will chime in.

3138 is prob the shifter housing number..but unless you are a numbers guy it doesnt mean much

Sorry, rotate 180' and there should be some numbers on there. There will probably be a 3138 stamped on there like Supercar mentioned. May be some other numbers as well. I do not know which is correct for 71. Now you have my curiosity up. I have a 72 4 speed Cutlass that I think is original. I will try to get a look at it.

ok I flipped them over and it does say 3138 on the other side. so all my research (mostly camero sites) says that hurst competition plus was 70-72 and hurst was from 73 on. so it looks like i'll be redoing the competition plus for my 71.
