Hurst Pro-matic 2 shifter

Has anyone installed a Hurst Promatic 2 in a Cutlass with a bench seat? I have a 72 CS. I'm thinking that even if it fits in front of the bench seat, I might want to get the taller shifter--the one made for trucks; it's 4" taller than the regular Promatic 2.

I made a post similar to yours few weeks back. I want to do the exact same thing (promatic 2 Truck Version with bench to look like a 4 speed shifter). Some members recommended possibly getting a 4 speed hurst shifter and custom fitting it into the pro matic mechanism. I havent ordered the pro matic 2 yet so cannot help you there. Researching online indicates most people have issues getting the shifter to work properly, but this is definitely on my list of things to try.

I have a 66 f85 that has the bench seat and pro magic 2 truck shifter., I should refraze that, I took the bench out last week and replaced bench with buckets and moved my shifter back between the buckets. Does it work with the bench?, yes, it did for the last 30 years. Was it comfortable slamming gears reaching forward all the time? No. I probably would still be driving it like that, if I wouldn’t have come across factory buckets. So yes it works.

Appreciate the info. I'm so short-legged maybe I won't have to reach so far

Do you have any pictures of your set up with the bench?

I thought I still had some., but after looking, they must have been deleted? Last time I took photos of the inside, was when I got insurance with hagerty, years ago. Hopefully I printed them?

I just got the shifter. Btw Its the TRUCK shifter as I wanted the Longer Handle. The height is great and it looks good. Install is pretty detailed so I may not tackle it just yet. Shifter is heavy and feels solid. I will probably ditch the plastic console and make a leather boot for it.

No I haven't gotten around to it yet. Was busy building my first motor (at age 58), a 455 to replace my 350. I plan to install buckets first then the shifter.

Hello, sorry for answering to this old thread, but ive seen your picture of the Hurst pro-matic 2 shifter (Truck version) in the bench seat car!

Im thinking about doing the same thing to my 71 cutlass S. I already have a Transgo shift kit installed in my tranny and maybe in future, i will add a Full manual valve body. But at first, I just want to get rid of the column shifting.

Have you finished the conversion already? Have you used the plastic cover or have you made a custom leather boot?

Maybe you can Post a few pictures?

Greetings from Austria
