Smile how is your ride and what was done to it.

I will no longer bring up racing for our group now, I really due understand projects take time to finish as posted before, but I am hoping for future purposes to bring it up. I finished up a lot of little bs that stacks up over time , things breaking down etc that is beyond control. I hope you finished up as much as possible and enjoyed your rides it is almost time to wrap it up for 2014. my insurance coverage for the olds expires tomorrow and my olds will be gone over in october then on to my other time consuming hobby model railroading that is also near completion.

This year was the unexpected failure of my cam, maw'd water pump and timing chain. New center link, tie rod ends, and idler arm, lucked into a freebee for test. Also did rear brake shoes.

Next year looking for a good deal on a posi rear and revamp rear suspension. The bushings are really showing their age.

I put a few things into my 76 this summer, new rear posi /gears, TCI torque convertor with shift kit, headman headers 2 1/4 stainless with flowmaster super 44's, powermaster starter, aluminum water pump and station wagon coils. Was considering dropping in a 455 but I have since bought an 09 Pontiac G8 with low milage . I have many upgrades that I want to do with this G8 so my Cutlass will be put off for a year or so. Plus the Cutlass is running like a champ rite now so I'm just going to get the good out of the current motor.

Let me see, new tires, new generator, rewired most of the wiring under the hood and under the dash, new generator again with a new voltage regulator this time, heater control valve and rebuild the cables that operate them. There must be more let me see where is my check book. Still managed to put on about 7000 miles and eight or nine states behind us and only three of it on the back of a wrecker. Still may get in one more short road trip. Not such a bad year after all..Tedd

Didn't get to drive it except in a parking lot. Lots of body work stripping, grinding, cutting fabricating panels, prime , block sanding and some paint. what a great time I had assembling panels to get the gaps right ( walking away helps ) but over all lots of fun hard work with great friends.

Last year the c-10 I've been working on for last 2 years was finally done, this year it was time to start finishing the Cutlass.
After the 463 build was under way I started finishing the rest, install the buckets with new upholstery, new carpet, center console and dual gate. I finished the suspension, put now control arms front and back, new steering linkage etc.
Drove the crap out of the 355 this year and last weekend was it's last ride.
As of today small block is out, now I'm preparing the engine bay for the 463.

Fixed my frame rot and body mount rot along with new bushings , did some wiring , fixed some engine issues where I had to tear it all back apart. (Cam issue) , installed a new trans I built last year , steel fenders I restored , re did my fuel lines , wrapping it all up and YES I'm hitting the track before SNOW falls . That's if everything goes smooth. I'm sure I forgot some of the other things I did but I got a thread for that. I kicked some @$$ this summer work wise on the cutlass.

I made a decision this season to take it moderately easy on the car and it paid off. I finally ripped the power steering belt that was their before I rebuilt the car and noticed clutch needed adjustment this year and finally a tweak with the timing. I know an alignment is over due and a new master cylinder is probably in the works. Moving gracefully, I take care of her she takes care of me!

I noticed the idle vibration is massively worse on cold days like yesterday morning compared with when I took it out this afternoon. The engine seems to be running smooth, so it's probably the one or more of the other engine mounts going bad. The transmission mount was already replaced, I figured the rest weren't far behind but I was really hoping to wait until next year to replace them, as this will squeeze my budget. Guess it couldn't wait. I'm taking it in next week to make sure it isn't another issue that's popped up, and then most likely replace them.

I have the passenger quarter panel off my car, I met Henry 66400 a couple of weeks ago, bought a good quater from him. Hes a really good guy it seams, very nice. I have it prepped and coated with Por15 on the inside, and also used Por15 on the surface rusted areas that the quarter will hide. With any luck ill start putting it on the car this weekend. Im on call at work, know ill have to work some but hope i get some time to work on the car.

Numerous small things done this year but the major thing were the installed headers with x-pipe, magnaflow mufflers and dual exhaust which took most of my holiday money. Car will go in storage next week and hibernate till April next year so I can save some money the next 6 months. When she gets out she will get new rear leaf springs, Retrosound radio with speakers and since I will take the dash out new Sunpro gauges will be installed as well. If I have some leftover money I will order new Procomp heads and TRW pistons as I plan to give her an engine overhaul when she turns 40 in 2016

I would also suggest making a list and checking the web for the upcoming swap meets guys. I finished mine with a lo------t of swap meet shopping at this time of the year, I also had to replace this year a lot of chiaanes parts that break down. I did my car over a lot of years, But I always had my eyes on the finished product or big picture and enjoyed the company at the meets. I stated earlier that I had missed a lot of the fun times but now within a certain time span we all can enjoy the future times and it will be our turn then.

Well first I bought my car. Drove it twice and to date have pulled the front clip, the gas tank, gutted the interior, pulled the engine and trans, pulled the body off the frame and am in the process of completely refurbishing the frame and running gear.

jfb,
What kind of model railroad are you working on? (Scale, era ect.)

37 Olds L-37 Eight: Added a pusher electric fan, rebuilt radiator, electric fuel pump, vintage dual point breaker plate, vacuum reserve tank for the wipers, new battery, remote oil filter, and many carb rebuilds to have a spare in the trunk. Added the center diff from a '49 Olds for the taller highway gear. Put 2,000 miles of testing on the car from Feb. to June 2014. Testing revealed a leaking head gasket. Changed head gasket, and a broken distributor mechanical advancement spring. June: Rallied in the 2014 Great Race from Maine to Florida. Blew the bearings in the transmission in Vermont, and dropped out in NY. Also found out that the tall highway gear was great on the flat, but would not climb the Green Mountains in Vermont... Rebuilt the tranny, and now it's down for a timing chain and front cover oil leaks. Reinstalled the stock diff, and going to try oversized rear tires for better highway cruising speeds, but keep the grunt for the hills. Entered in the 2015 Great Race on Route 66 with my sons as my crew.

I had a quote from a earlier person and i have a ho model railroad of chicago and a few suburbs. I work on this over winters until about mid march from november on. I like to have projects and have finished them myself it is more gratifying for me. I go to a few train swap meets to keep the cost down. i USED TO WORK ON THE OLDS MOST WINTERS BUT WITH IT MOSTLY COMPLETE I NEED OTHER PROJECTS. I drive the olds to all late spring summer and early fall events and the time across the line is used to complete and stay cost effective,i am not a person who likes to see time wasted and i have done a lot of traveling on my own. i have said this to many ,The world is a huge place and she is waiting for people to re-explor her and pass the word along it is our turn now to teach and a obligation also.

a==h swap meet time guys we all need to keep our costs down with skill and work. I am a true believer in this and my car was rebuilt for a reasonable amount this way. I also believe in a well thought out plan, Brain work costs nothing.

Replaced the valve cover gaskets, new plugs, re-tuned the carb, replace power steering hose, and new disc brake pads all around on the 57. The 468 Engine still runs great.
