How to Remove Wiper Switch Applique ???

Can someone tell me how to remove the wiper switch appllique without breaking it, lol.. Looks like there is a small 1/4" nut on the back, I tried unscrewing it with a deep socket but kept turning without coming off. Here are a couple of pics if anyone has the answer.. It looks like two different part numbers also on the switches, is one of them aftermarket? Thanks for any help..

All you have to do is pull/pry carefully from the frontside when using your ratchet on the backside....the post threads are stripped out from overtightening (very common on these chrome diecast parts). With the pulling/prying it'll cause the small stamped nut to be forced outwards and it'll start threading off of there.

^^^This.

The nut is a stamped sheet metal nut, called a pal nut. These nuts cut their own threads on the die cast posts and as noted when overtightened the nut cuts a groove at the base of the post. Carefully pry while loosening and the nut will start to back off.

Appliqué usually refers to the glued on trim, which is the brushed metal veneer with the printing on it. In this case I think the question should be how to remove the switch. Period.

Ok thank you all, I got it off just like you guys instructed without breaking it. Allan you are right, that is the reason I am removing the switch & back plate so I can put on my new woodgrain applique. Thanks Again

I get what you're doing now. For some reason I originally thought you wanted to remove the wiper switch appliqué and replace it with a new repro one. Hey, now that you have it off, ya might as well.
