Angry How much for a rear window?

Well, the good news is, it reached almost 70 degrees here in Northeast Ohio.
The bad news... it got windy. Really windy.
I was driving, all four windows down, at about 50 when there was a huge gust of wind. Hearing a noise behind me, I look back...and my rear window is gone. Turned to dust. In a billion pieces all over the road. The panel between the window and deck lid was hanging off the side of the car, and my first thought was "my Dad is going to KILL me". At least the window doesn't leak now!

That's horrible! Sounds like the butyl was dried out too much and just let go. Amazing how much inside pressure is generated by wind isn't it?

You will also need the stainless trim around the window unless you were able to retrieve it unscathed from the roadway.

Here's a link for Auto City Classic . They have your rear glass for a decent price and are in St. Paul Minneapolis. I hope it wasn't one of the rear glass with the optional electric defog on glass.

Also check with Oldspackrat or 507Olds, They might have a window for you, 507 would be closer as he is in Erie, PA. Both have been great to deal with

Luckily, the trim is still in the garage! Thanks for the link. I'm still a bit shaken up...only happened but an hour ago.

It just so happens I'm having a "blow out" sale on Supreme rear windows. $50.00 for a good used one if you pick it up here in Indy. I might be able to deliver to the Ohio state line for some gas money? I have the rear trim pieces also if you need those.

I won't be able to drive to Indy or the border, unfortunately. My Uncle should have one laying around, I hope! Thank you for the offer, however.

Keegan,
Hope you can score one, if not, I'll be in Bloomington Indiana tomorrow morning for a short bit.

Tom,
It seemed appropriate.

So, just to troubleshoot this, there was no trim, and just the butyl holding down, and it went?

Has anyone had experience with losing one with trim and butyl on?

In addition to the above, isn't that rear panel supposed to be welded to the body?

I bet it scared the bejesus out of ya. Better than getting your doors blown off I guess. Did you already scrape off the butyl? I remember when the DeLorean first came out plagued with the rear window blowing out.

Hahaha, blow out sale, now that's funny.

Yes, only the butyl was holding it in. The panel was only welded on the ends...obviously not very well. I don't think they did a very good job installing the window to begin with.

I have glass breakage on mine and did the dumb fishing for clips on the windshield and it cracked. Even had the proper tool! Turned it in and had a new one 3 days later. Installed. They even came out to the house to do the job. No deductible. I told them how it happened. State Farm.
The rear one was a little different story. I received a new one from where I can't remember, in 1000 pieces. They sent me a new one and even covered installation. Yours could be a good thing if you have ins. Mine now are new with no scratches or discoloring.

While we're on the topic, does anyone know hoe "universal" these windows are? Like GM versatility...would a Chevelle/Nova/Camaro/Skylark,etc. rear window fit? Or is the Supreme body style totally different?

I know the 70 to 72 cutlass supreme and the 69 to 72 Grand Prix rear window is the same.

Yeah, most rear windows stay on the car.

Update: met someone tonight with a real passion for Oldsmobiles. He's got two drag cars and won the Olds Nationals here in Ohio last year! He was so gracious in giving me a new back seat and a rear window! One step closer to getting rid of that ugly brown interior...Lol!
