1971 W30 only... if your looking at purchasing the heads from someone check to see if they have anything else from the car. The carb, distributor and intake also have specific numbers showing this application. A couple years ago there was a guy on ebay trying to sell his numbers matching 1971 W30 and became frustrated that he couldn't get the price he wanted. So he became angry and parted out the motor keeping the body for a race car (that's what he said on the ads). Just about made me cry watching that rare of a car being parted, but he may have got $15,000-20,000 for the parts he sold. John

So you have a 1971 442 that has 1971 442 W30 heads on it. I've just got to ask... do you know the history of the car? Which factory was it built in? Is the 455 the correct engine block? If so, do the date codes on the engine block, heads and trim tag make sense? Any evidence that the fenders have been replaced? Sure someone could have swapped the heads on years ago, but if you had a W30 that someone removed the emblems from that would be waaaaaaay cool. John

Not to familiar with Olds head ID, but curious whats so special about the H heads, as GM dropped CR in 71'. Only thing I can figure, is the compression drop was from dished pistions, and better flowing heads where used to help keep power up.

The W30 heads are reported to flow better, but the real value in the D, F and H heads are for the person trying to restore a W30 (or Hurst Olds in 1968-69) and needing to match the factory castings. I think a good machine shop could make a set of C heads flow better than the factory castings of the W30 heads. Or a person could purchase a set of aluminum heads and have them worked over for less than the value of the W30 heads. John

Thanks guys, as that answers my questions. Really not sure what cores my 455 heads started with, as custom Dave Smith street/strip heads. Polished and cc'd chambers, light porting, intake matched. Although awhile back, know they were well over $1000 bucks. Sized for 10.25 CR with TRW pistons, thing really moves. Since it's the wrong engine for the car, not to concerned about numbers matching.

I saw my first set of counterfeit H heads on a car at the Indy Mecum auction. My understanding is this is done with JB weld. In order to verify the heads, the other two sets of numbers on the heads need to be posted too. If you have real H heads they are a nice find for a w-30 missing this part.
